For the first time, Russia will present its export drone the “Orion-E” UAV in a strike configuration, at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021.
This was announced by Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia.
“For the first time at MAKS the export Orion-E will be presented in a strike configuration. Previously, the unmanned aerial vehicle was offered for sale only in a reconnaissance version,” said Shugaev in an interview with RIA Novosti.
For the period from 2019 to 2021, the FSMTC of Russia received nine requests from foreign customers from various regions for Orion drones, “including two for showcasing and demonstration tests and seven for delivery.”
The strike variant “Orion-E” is equipped with a universal complex of aviation weapons, which allows it to destroy both stationary and moving ground targets, armored vehicles and vehicles of the enemy, as well as ground troops.
The Orion-E drone includes unguided and corrected aerial bombs, as well as various guided missiles. The maximum payload mass of the drone is 200 kilograms, and the total payload weight is up to 250 kilograms.
Orion-E belongs to the class of medium-altitude attack unmanned aerial vehicles of long duration. The drone is supplied to the RF Armed Forces under the name “Inohodets”.
The drone can be in flight for up to 24 hours. Its maximum take-off weight is 1150 kilograms, the UAV’s cruising speed is 200 kilometers per hour, and its maximum flight altitude is seven kilometers. The wingspan of the drone is 16 meters, the length is eight meters.
It is primed to be of significant competition to Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2 drone.
Additionally, Russian aircraft makers say they will present a prospective new fighter jet at the Moscow air show.
The new warplane hidden under tarpaulin was photographed being towed to a parking spot across an airfield in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow, where the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon opens Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit the show’s opening.
Russian media reports said that the new jet has been built by the Sukhoi aircraft maker in a programme of development of a light tactical fighter.
Unlike Russia’s latest Su-57 two-engine stealth fighter, the new aircraft is smaller and has one engine.
In a bid to raise public interest before the presentation, Rostec published a picture of the new plane covered by tarpaulin with “wanna see me naked?” written under it. It also posted a brief video featuring excited foreign customers and the jet’s vague shadow over the water.

Another teaser photo posted on Rostec’s Facebook account showed what appeared to be a reflection of a British type 45 destroyer in the new Russian warplane’s optical sensor with an inscription “See you”.
“Black tarpaulin looks enticing, but details are always more interesting,” Rostec said.
