The official website of the Russian Defense Ministry has for the first time unveiled a multi-functional mine-resistant MRAP vehicle Typhoon, equipped with a new remote controlled turret.
The new vehicle was spotted during training of members of the international engineering troops’ competition Open water in Murom.
The mine-resistant armored wheeled vehicle Typhoon was designed and manufactured by KAMAZ. The new generation 6×6 armored vehicle can be deployed in surveillance, medical evacuation, command and staff, engineer reconnaissance, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) reconnaissance and surveillance, fire support, special attack and armed escort missions.
The vehicle can also be used to transport soldiers, medical units and other equipment, as well as to convoy other vehicles for combat missions and to transport soldiers. The Typhoon offers increased protection for troops in high threat environments.
The MRAP vehicle is equipped with a remote control turret designed by JSC NPO Electromashina. The remote control turret allows to mount on it machine guns caliber PKT 7,62x54R with increased ammunition and 12.7 mm NSVT or Kord, as well as a grenade launcher AGS-30. The module weight depends on the weapon and ammunition and could reach 150-170 kg.
The practical stage of the all-army contest Open water will be held in Murom on August 14-18. Engineering units of Russia, China and Belarus will also take part in the international stage of the contest.
