On Monday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that joint operations against terrorists in the Syria’s city of Aleppo are close to be started by the US and Russia.

“We are in a very active stage of negotiations with our American colleagues now, both in Geneva and Amman; we are practically in constant talks with Washington. Step by step we are nearing a structure – I’m talking about Aleppo only – that would allow us to truly begin working together so that this territory, this long-suffering region could find peace,” Shoigu told the Rossiya-24 Russia’s TV channel.

Russia’s military building up in and around Syria was targeted to politely push the western partners to start cooperation. It seems that Russia has practically reached its purpose.

The endgame for Syria should be a political solution in which the Syrian government forces and SDF/YPG crush all jihadists even “moderate” Islamist terrorists. After this military victory of the Islamists is achieved you implement the Democratic Confederalism, decentralized secular democracy implemented by the Federation of Northern Syria – Rojava. If Assad doesn’t like this, then they can negotiate a “one country, two systems” approach where Rojava is autonomous like Iraqi Kurdistan (with it’s own army, police, border, flag, government, elections etc) while remaining part of Syria. If Assad doesn’t like this, then a de-facto partition could be implemented where enough troops are placed in Rojava to ensure Assad (or Turkey) doesn’t invade.
