The Russian Aerospace Forces have tested a new anti-ballistic missile at the Sary-Shagan training range in Kazakhstan, the country’s defense ministry said on July 2. According to the statement, the missile confirmed its characteristics and fulfilled the task “striking the assigned target with a given accuracy.”
A previous test of the same type interceptor missile from the Sary-Shagan training range was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on June 4.
In the both cases, the Russian side did not name the missile system but it is believed to be the PRS-1M interceptor missile, which protects Moscow and other strategic sites from incoming enemy missiles. According to reports, the missile can use both nuclear and conventional warheads. It can hit targets at ranges of 350 km and altitudes of 50 km. It’s set to become a part of the A-235 anti-ballistic missile system. The system in development will replace the current A-135.

350 km seems very short to me, when being compare to Kalibr missile (one were used against daesh is approaching 500km range). Would not it be safer to have missiles that hit target at 1000km + range? (does it have to do with INF or START treaty?)… ☕
i believe that this missile is part of a wider range of different missiles within a specific system. There probably is for the 1000km+ range
It’s an endo atmospheric interceptor missile it’s meant to intercept an ICBM in it’s last stage by targeting MIRVs with it’s nuclear warhead. Endo atmospheric interceptors have a shorter range than the Exo atmospheric ones.

The A-235 is the replacement for the A-135 which defends Moscow under the now defunct ABM treaty. The USA exited the treaty in 2002 now Russia has come up with this new mobile missile system, which was not allowed under the ABM treaty. Unlike before they’ll be able to deploy these things all over Russia and there is no limit on numbers produced.
They are designed to destroy American ICBM’s. They are not cruise missiles like the Kalibr.
