Russia can start to use Iran’s military infrastructure for conducting operations against terrorists in Syria, if Moscow and Tehran deem it is necessary.

Iran’s military infrastructure will be used by the Russian Aerospace Forces for conducting operations against terrorists on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, if Russia and Iran deem it necessary, the TASS news agency reported, citing Russian ambassador at the Islamic Republic, Levan Dzhagaryan.
“If the leadership of the two countries will consider it necessary to use the Iranian military infrastructure to combat terrorism in Syria or elsewhere, such steps will be taken,” Dzhagaryan said.
In August 2016, the Shahid Nojed airbase in Iran was used by Russian military in order to carry out airstrikes on terrorists in Syria. In December 2016, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said that his country was ready to consider Moscow’s request on the use of the airbase, but, at the same time, added that no talks on the issue were underway.
The Russian ambassador at Iran also noted that alleged plans of Russia to supply the S-400 antiaircraft missile systems to Iran do not correspond to reality.
“Periodically appearing media reports about the possible delivery of S-400 complexes have nothing to do with reality,” Dzhagaryan said. “Last year, Russia finished completely the fulfillment of its obligations for the delivery of S-300 air defense systems to Iran,” he added.
The diplomat also noted that Tehran shows its interest in many Russian projects in the sphere of military-technical cooperation.
“Cooperation between Russia and Iran proceeds in many fields, including the military-technical sphere,” Dzhagaryan said. “The two countries’ defense ministries are currently in talks at different levels on many projects of interest to Iran.”
Having Russian forces on Iranian soil is a signal to Trump that Iran will not be isolated, regardless what carrot he dangles to Putin. Iran will be part of any peaceful solution is reached in Syria. Actually, Russia had pretty good relations with Jordan, we even developed their main AT launcher RPG-32 Nashshab.
The S-400 and a good influx of SU-30 for the Iranians would do well to give pause to any of the hawks in Jerusalem and Washington.
