Russian air defenses intercepted over the night from August 21 to August 22 more than two dozen Ukrainian suicide drones over six regions in Russia.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that 13 drones were shot down over the Volgograd region, seven over the Rostov region, four over the Belgorod region, two over the Voronezh region and one each over the regions of Bryansk and Kursk.
The main target of the attack was apparently the Marinovka Air Base. Smoke was reported near the air base. However, no casualties or losses were reported by Russian media.
Separately, Russian air defenses intercepted a Ukrainian missile over Kursk late on August 21, according to the region’s acting Governor Alexey Smirnov.
“Our air defenses continue to repel Ukrainian attacks. Yet another Ukrainian missile has been shot down,” Smirnov wrote on Telegram, without elaborating.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory in the last few months, and even went as far as launching a surprise ground attack into Kursk. These attacks will likely provoke a fierce response from Russia.
Last March, the Russian military resumed group strikes on military infrastructure and related energy facilities in Ukraine following a series of attacks that targeted the region of Belgorod. Russia could increase the strikes in the coming weeks to deter the Kiev regime.
