A loud blast rocked the coastal Syrian city of Tartus on March 16 with Syrian media reporting the interception of a drone over the port which hosts a base of the Russian Navy.
Some reports said that the anti-aircraft missile that brought down the drone was fired from an air defense system deployed within the Russian naval base, while other reports suggested that the interception was carried out by one of the Russian warships situated off the shores of the city.
The incident came amid rising tensions on the Syrian coast. Earlier this month, the Syrian interim government, which is led by Islamists factions, unleashed a deadly crackdown on the coast. Nearly 1,500 civilians, mainly Chirstans and Alawites, were killed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reported some 50 separate massacres.
The killings displaced tens of thousands of civilians, including at least 8,000 who took shelter at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base near the coastal city of Jableh.
Since the fall of the Assad regime last December, the forces of the interim government have been guarding Russian bases on the coast.
On February 18, an attack targeted government checkpoints around Khmeimim with Russian forces engaging several drones with anti-aircraft guns at the same time.
It’s worth noting that Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, SVR, warned after the fall of the Assad regime that the United States and British intelligence services were preparing “terrorist acts” against Russian military bases in Syria.
“British intelligence services are developing plans to organise a series of terrorist attacks on Russian military facilities in Syria. The role of perpetrators is assigned to militants of the terrorist group ISIS,” the intelligence service said in a press release at the time, noting that the militants might use drones in the attacks.
“Washington and London assume that under such conditions they will be able to more quickly achieve their own geopolitical goal – to ensure their long-term dominance in the region based on the odious concept of a ‘rules-based order’. This, however, is hampered by Russia’s military presence on the Mediterranean coast of Syria, which still serves as a significant factor in regional stability,” the release added.
Despite the complexity of the situation, recent reports suggest that Russia was nearing a deal with the Syrian interim government to maintain a reduced military presence on the country’s coast, including the Khmeimim Air Base and the naval base at Tartus port.

can فريدوم tell me why the alawites are traitors if someone from their sect tried to replace jolani with himself? will christians or druze also become traitors if another of their kind decides to replace jolani with himself? many druze are members of the israeli army, what if an israeli army general appears and appoints himself as president of syria? or does a catholic emerge and appoint himself president of syria? what is treason now? try to replace bad leader with yourself?
that guy is a hts terrorist himself.

el sisi is a genius and you are a fool. by the way, the biggest fool in the world is bashar al-assad, who dreamed of syrian reconciliation, but now he can watch the genocide of his own sect on television. that’s how it is if you trust russia, and even worse if you trust a gang of turkish mercenaries paid with money from qatar. in that case, you still have the same amount of intelligence after being beheaded.
he continued, adding that patriarch john x made an appeal “to stop the bloodshed, while in our private meeting he pointed out the tragic shortages of food and medicine that christians are facing.” “i call on the greek government and the governments of [eu] member states, to act now. neither greece nor the eu can continue to show tolerance and be limited to ceremonial visits and courtesies with the

the only solution to this situation is to divide the country into several states. putin and assad are to blame, because they should have seen that such an artificially created state can neither be successful nor safe. but no, the country had to be kept together at a huge blodley cost, and that is not the final price yet. if syria were to disintegrate like yugoslavia, the hatred would slowly stop, as it did in yugoslavia.

greece warns of syrian regime’s actions, seeks to distance from chinese influence by bill giannopoulosathens, greece — in the wake of a violent weekend that left hundreds dead under syria’s new regime, greek foreign minister giorgios gerapetritis has issued a stern warning to europe and the united states. during a press conference, gerapetritis urged western nations to “keep a close eye” on the islamist group currently ruling syria, which is actively seeking acceptance from the west.
this statement comes at a time when greece is reevaluating its international partnerships. historically, china had stepped in to provide financial support during greece’s severe public debt crisis, with chinese companies investing billions when most investors were deterred by the risk of default. however, recent developments indicate a shift in greek policy. gerapetritis highlighted this change in direction, expressing greece’s intent to reduce its dependency on china.
“it is our firm conviction that we need to develop alternative cooperation and alternative trade routes [to china],” he declared, signaling a strategic pivot towards diversifying greece’s economic and political alliances. this move not only reflects greece’s desire for autonomy in its foreign policy but also aligns with broader western concerns about china’s growing influence in europe. as greece seeks to navigate its path in a complex g
