Russian air defenses foiled on September 20 an attempt by Kiev forces to launch strikes against the regions of Belgorod and Kursk.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that eight Ukrainian suicide drones were shot down over Belgorod. There were no reports of any losses.
Separately, Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov announced via his official channel on the Telegram messaging app that a missile was intercepted over the region, without providing any additional details. The governor didn’t report any casualties or damage in the region.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks against Russian territory in recent months, with a special focus on both Belgorod and Kursk.
Between March 12 and April 7, Kiev forces launched several raids in Belgorod and Kursk, all of which were repelled. In response, the Russian military launched a limited ground operation into the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv on May 10 and managed to establish a security zone along the border of Belgorod.
Ukraine escalated again on August 6 by launching a full-on ground operation in Kursk. The advance of Kiev forces was quickly halted by the Russian military, which began a counter-attack on September 10. More than a dozen settlements have been already liberated there.
While Kiev’s recent attacks harmed scores of civilians in Russia, they failed to change the balance of power in the special military operation zone. The Russian military continues to advance in several directions there, most notable in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
