At least 31 ISIS terrorists were killed and 45 others were wounded in central Syria over the past 30 days as a result of Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on May 30.

According to the London-based monitoring group, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out more than 650 airstrikes on ISIS hideouts in the central region during in the last 30 days. The most recent airstrikes targeted the eastern Hama countryside, the eastern Homs countryside and the southern countryside of Raqqa.

Despite facing much pressure, ISIS cells in central Syria were able to carry out a number of attacks on government forces and their allies.

  • On January 24, the terrorists attacked a convoy of the Syrian Arab Army near the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs. Seven service members were killed and 24 others were wounded.
  • On January 28, the terrorists attacked a number of military positions near the town of Se’alow in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor. Four Iranian-backed fighters were wounded.
  • On January 29, the terrorists targeted a bus transporting a group of Iranian-backed fighters as it was passing on a road leading to the town of al-Sawanah in the eastern countryside of Homs. Several fighters were wounded.

ISIS presence in central Syria is still strong. However, as for now the terrorist group is still incapable of threatening key urban centers and strategic roads in the region.

I’ve been following the news in Syria for a long time now. It amazes me how isis was able to hide in the desert and survive there for years (HOW ?? I read that the rebels in southern Syria supply them, but how is it possible?) … However, the fact of having suffered many losses affected the effectiveness of their operations to the detriment of the central government, losses that continue to suffer today, the more time passes the less the Syrian desert is a dangerous place

You can read about it here there and everywhere and about professional warfare.

Next You should understand how deserts are. The “Syrian desert” has big parts which actually is steppe. It also has big wadis, where You can find water enough for groups of persons living there but not much vegetation as well as You only can have a few goats and sheep there. There are mountains as well.

There are not many detailed maps for that desert. I sometimes use Michelin maps, which is free. Its in 4 versions. The most detailed one has roads and tracks for any transportation. If You fllow them in detail, You will see there are houses here and there. Sometimes its only a few houses, sometimes You can find a small village, sometimes the tracks are to small waterdams, where You can collect water for Yourself some animals some vegatables and some few olive or pistace bushes and trees.

People there today has left. But in peace they lived there even they were very poor. They could make all food themself apart from bread.

In some more advanced parts of the world they have solar and windpower and store enough electricity by old car batteries, so they have TV, radio and eveniing light in their. houses.

By the way ISIS has taken over several of those abandonned housings and hide there too. Water there always is a possibility.

I have learned a lot by reading and looking at maps in cold, dark and rainy days.
