At least four terrorists of ISIS were killed and 13 others were wounded in central Syria over the past 30 days as a result of Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on October 30.
According to the London-based monitoring group, Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) warplanes carried out more than 145 on the terrorist group’s hideouts in the region during that period.
Most of the terrorists were killed or wounded in the eastern countryside of Homs, the western Deir Ezzor countryside and in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle.
The VKS intensified its combat operations in central Syria earlier this year following a series of attacks by ISIS. After sustaining heavy human and material losses, the terrorist group’s cells limited their movements in the region.
However, ISIS cells in central Syria are still carrying out small-scale attacks from time to time. On October 24, the terrorists blew up a Syrian military vehicle in the southern Raqqa countryside. Later on October 27, the terrorists reportedly killed an intelligence officer during a hit-and-run attack in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
ISIS insurgency in central Syria, which began around four years ago, will not likely end in the near future. Yet, Syrian and Russian efforts to contain the terrorist group’s cells in the region appear to be succeeding. The insurgency has been slowing down.
