Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces have carried out more than 270 airstrikes on ISIS’s areas of influence in Syria’s central region since the beginning of March, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on the 30th of the month.
According to the London-based monitoring group, the Russian airstrikes killed at least nine terrorists of ISIS and wounded 17 others. Most of the airstrikes targeted hideouts of ISIS cells in the eastern Homs countryside and the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle.
The SOHR’s report indicates Russian special military operation in Ukraine has no impact on the country’s counter-terrorism operations in Syria.
The Syrian Arab Air Force has been also active against ISIS cells in the country’s central region. On March 30, Syrian attack helicopters targeted several hideouts of the terrorist group near the town of Rahjan in the eastern Hama countryside.
ISIS cells in central Syria escalated their attacks during March. The terrorists’ deadliest attack took place in the eastern countryside of Homs on March 6. The attack claimed the lives of 13 service members of the Syrian Arab Army and wounded 18 others.
Syrian government forces and their allies will likely continue to mount pressure on ISIS cells in the central region to drain them. Despite this, the terrorist group’s insurgency will not likely end anytime soon.
