Russian And Ukrainian Exchange Prisoners On New Year Eve

On December 31, the warring sides in Ukraine exchanged prisoners of war. More than 80 Russian servicemen have been released from Ukrainian captivity, the Defense Ministry said.

“On December 31, as a result of the negotiation process, 82 Russian servicemen who were in mortal danger in captivity were returned from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime,” the Russian Ministry said.

Military transport planes will take all those released to Moscow for treatment and rehabilitation.

In recent weeks, the Ministry of Defense has already reported on several exchanges of POWs. On December 1, 50 servicemen returned to Russia, five days later 60 servicemen more came home.

 

 

Later on December 31, Kiev confirmed the exchange. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, said that 140 Ukrainian servicemen were released.

“This is another big exchange that has been carried out – 140 people are returning home. Among them are the wounded, as well as defenders of Mariupol, Snake Island, volunteers from Slavutich territorial defence, and fathers and sons who were in captivity together, as well as our soldiers from the Bakhmut direction.”

Ukrainian POWs included 82 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 15 from the Territorial defence, 22 from the National Guards, 11 from the Navy and 10 from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. 132 men and 8 women, 22 officers and 118 sergeants and soldiers.
