On September 9, the Russian military made new gains near Kupyansk, improving its defensive positions along the front in this direction.
In a statement, the Zapad Group of Forces said that the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army had captured a strong point and four dugouts from Kiev forces in the Kupyansk direction. During the fighting, the army neutralized a platoon of infantry and destroyed an American-made MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle to the south of Sergeevka.
The group also repelled three counter-attacks by the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade of Kiev forces in the outskirts of Kovalevka.
Moreover, the artillery of the group destroyed an American-made M777 towed howitzer, a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and a mortar near Borovskaya, Andreevka, Peschanoe and Krakhmalnoye.
The group’s air defense systems also shot down two Ukrainian A1-CM Furia reconnaissance drones over Kotlyarovka and Ploschanka.
“The total losses of the enemy amounted to around a company of manpower,” the group said in its statement.
Meanwhile in the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces managed to repel three attacks by Kiev forces.
“In the South Donetsk area, units of the battlegroup East, backed by artillery, repulsed two enemy attacks near Novodonetskoye and one near Prechistovka. They destroyed: an armored fighting vehicle, cars and Ukrainian servicemen,” the group’s spokesman Oleg Chekhov told TASS, adding that an attempt to attack in the Priyutnoye area was foiled, as well as an attempt to rotate units.
Chekhov added that an M777 towed howitzer was destroyed, as well as several mortars near Makarovka, Ugledar and Novomikhailovka.
In addition, the group destroyed two Ukrainian strongholds north of Nikolskoye as well as a number of ammunition depots in other parts of South Donetsk, the spokesman said.
“Two nationalist strongholds in the area north of Nikolskoye were destroyed during an attack. Artillery fire destroyed ammunition depots in the area of Konstantinovka, north of Vladimirovka and in the area of Uglesborochnaya,” Chekhov said.
According to the spokesman, temporary deployment points of Ukraine’s 72nd mechanized brigade in Vodyanoye and gatherings of infantry near Urozhaynoye and Novodonetskoye were also hit.
In the Krasny Liman direction, Russian artillery destroyed the reserves of Kiev forces and disrupted an attempt to rotate troops on the front, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“The servicemen of the artillery crews of 152-mm howitzers D-20 of the Central Military District have destroyed with accurate fire enemy reserves, disrupting the rotation of Ukrainian servicemen in the Krasny Liman area,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The ministry said that during the combat operations, the group drones revealed the active movement and rotation of enemy troops at positions. The coordinates were transferred to the artillery units. In a few minutes, the artillerymen aimed their guns at the target and fired several accurate shots at the enemy units.
The correction of the fire was carried out in real time, which made it possible to destroy the enemy as effectively as possible, depriving it of the opportunity to compensate for the combat losses, the ministry added.
A Ukrainian fighting vehicle, an M777 towed howitzer and Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer were hit by artillery fire.
In addition, Russian news sources shared videos showing the destruction of a BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle, a D-20 towed howitzer and a Turkish-made Kirpi armored vehicle as well as a photo showing an American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and an M88A2 recovery vehicle which were recently damaged.

After facing a series of setbacks and sustaining heavy losses, Kiev forces decreased their attacks in the last few days. Despite this, the Ukrainian counteroffensive will not likely end before winter as the Kiev regime appears to be desperate for any achievement.
