The Russian military continues to advance in several areas along the front in the Zaporozhye direction, despite facing fierce fighting by the Ukrainians.
By September 25, it was reported that the Vostok [East] Group of Forces had secured a large area between Prymorsk and Stepnohirsk, including a key supply route that was previously used by Kiev forces.
Paratroopers from the 108th and 247th regiments of Russia’s 7th Guards Mountain Airborne Division have been leading the push in this part of Zaporozhye. Fire support by the Russian Aerospace Forces and various drone units have contributed to recent gains there.
The latest advance will further complicate the situation of Kiev forces in Stepanohirsk, especially when it comes to logistics.
Moving to the east in Zaporozhye, Russian troops continue to pressure Kiev forces in Poltavka, mainly by launching attacks from Olhivske.
Any breakthrough from Olhivske in the northern outskirts of Poltavka will very much place Ukrainian troops in the settlement under siege.
A little to the north, Kiev forces appear to be losing the battle for Novohryhorivka. Russian troops are advancing in the eastern and northern outskirts of the settlement, despite the presence of solid Ukrainian fortifications there. The troops could storm the settlement any time.
Meanwhile in the direction of Dnepropetrovsk, the Vostok Group of Forces was reportedly able to secure more gains to the north of Ternove. A push near Berezove was also reported.
In its daily briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Vostok Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces in Novogrigorovka and Poltavka in Zaporozhye, as well as close to Malomikhaylovka and Orly in Dnepropetrovsk over the past 24 hours.
“The AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) losses were up to 280 troops, two armored fighting vehicles, 10 motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station,” the ministry said.
According to a separate statement released by the ministry, from January 1 to September 25, over 261 square kilometers in Zaporozhye and 175 square kilometers in Dnepropetrovsk region have been captured by the Russian military. This advance shows that Kiev forces are getting less and less effective when it comes to defensive operations.
While Kiev forces are still fighting in both directions, their ability to conduct a serious counterattack seems very questionable.
