Kiev forces appear to be facing real difficulties in Khakriv, with reports from October 6 indicating advance by the Russian military on nearly all the fronts in this direction.
The Sever [North] Group of Forces has reportedly expanded its offensive operations in the forest of Synelnykove and on the left bank of the Volchya River in Volchansk. Heavy fighting is reported to be taking place in both areas, with Kiev forces attempting to hold onto every single position they have there. Still, Russian troops are making progress.
More advances were reported near Milove, to the southeast. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Sever Group of Forces had taken over Odradne.
From the settlement, Russian troops could advance in several directions. The most likely scenario is a push south and southeast, towards Dvorichanske and Bolohivka in order to link the pocket in Milove with the front down to Kamyanka along the Oskil River.
Moving to the south in Kharkiv, the battle in Kupyansk continues. The Zapad [West] Group of Forces is still advancing in the eastern and western parts of the city, increasing pressure on Ukrainian troops who are cornered in a narrow strip in the center, mainly along the Privokzalnaya street.
In an interview with TASS, Svyatoslav Dorosh, a captured officer from one of the units of Ukraine’s 154th Mechanized Brigade, revealed that an entire battalion was destroyed in under a month during the fighting in Kupyansk.
It’s worth noting that Kiev forces recently reinforced blocking detachments around Kpuyansk with special forces units in order to prevent troops from fleeing. As a result, more and more soldiers and officers are apparently opting to surrender to Russian troops.
Adding to the Ukrainian problems in Kupyansk, the Zapad Group of Forces has reportedly launched a new offensive from Peschane, which is located to the east of the city. Russian troops have already taken over some territories to the north of the settlement.
Russian troops could advance from there towards Novoosynove and Kivsharivka in order to sever a key supply route leading to Kupyansk in the north. However, a push to capture Kurylivka to the northwest seems more likely. From there, Russian drone units will very much dominate the entire area around Kupyansk, including the same supply route.
All in nothing appears to be going in favor of Ukraine in Kharkiv. Despite recent losses, there has been no reports of additional reinforcements being pushed to the fronts in this direction, which suggest that Kiev forces are facing some serious shortages, especially when it comes to manpower. Despite this, the heavy use of drones by Kiev forces, and the presence of well-prepared fortifications will likely prevent a complete collapse of Ukrainian defenses there.
