The Russian Army Aviation began conducting air patrols over Syria’s northeastern region, where several Russian positions were established in the last few weeks.
Zvezda TV released a video of the Russian Army Aviation’s first patrol, which covered a large area between the Kuweires airbase in eastern Aleppo and the town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa on November 7.
The patrol was conducted by a Mi-8AMTSh assault helicopter and a Mi-35M gunship helicopter. Both helicopters were equipped with directional infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) protection systems and appeared to be armed.
Russian forces entered northeast Syria last month to facilitate an agreement between the Damascus government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The forces established several bases near Ras al-Ain and the cities of Manbij, Qamishli and al-Tabqah. Recent reports even claimed that Russia is planning to lease an airbase in the region from the Damascus government.
