The Russian military and the armed forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic continue to capture Western-supplied weapons from Kiev forces.
On April 28, Russian sources shared photos showing some weapons which were captured from Kiev forces by a reconnaissance unit of the Russian Armed Forces near the city of Slavyansk in the Donbass region.
The captured weapons included:
- Seven Soviet-made RPG-22 anti-tank weapons;
- A Soviet-made RPG-26 anti-tank weapon;
- Two Soviet-made 9K115 Metis anti-tank guided missiles;
- Two Swedish-made AT4 recoilless anti-tank weapons;
- A Spanish-made C90-CR anti-tank weapon;
- A US-made M72 LAW anti-tank weapon;
- A German-made MATADOR anti-tank weapon;
- A US-made SMAW-D bunker buster weapon;
- A Soviet-made 9K32M Strela-2M man-portable air-defense system.
Western states supplied Kiev forces with thousands of man-portable anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. While some of these weapons were Western-made, the rest were Soviet-era weapons taken from the old stockpiles of former Eastern Bloc states.
The US and the UK have been leading Western efforts to arm Kiev forces. Very recently, Germany also stepped up its military supplies to Ukraine.
On April 28, German lawmakers voted in favor of an action plan to send heavy weapons and complex military systems, including armored vehicles and air-defense systems, to Kiev forces.
The West believes that unlimited military support for Kiev forces will lead to the failure of the Russian special military operation. However, the West’s intervention has only prolonged the war, worsened the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and hindered peace talks between Kiev and Moscow.
