Russian Army Captures Another Town In Dnepropetrovsk, Makes Gains In Zaporozhye (Videos)

The Russian military has captured another settlement in the direction of Dnepropetrovsk, and made additional gains nearby in the direction of Zaporozhye.

On September 27, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Vostok [East] Group of Forces had captured Stepove in Dnepropetrovsk from Kiev forces. A large area located between the settlement and Kalynivske to the south, was also reportedly secured.

From Stepove, Russian troops will likely work to level the front all the way to Sosnivka to the northeast. An attack from the settlement towards Verbove also seems possible.

To the south in Zaporozhye, the Vostok Group of Forces is reported to be breaking through Ukrainian defenses to the south and west of Novoivanivka with the aim of leveling the front facing Poltavka which is located a few kilometers to the south.

Ukrainian media also reported a push by Russian troops from Olhivske towards Poltavka. An analysis published on Telegram by a Ukrainian soldier with the call sign “Muchnoy” highlighted the worsening situation of Kiev forces in the key settlement.

“The situation has sharply escalated, fighting is already unfolding directly on the approaches to it [Poltava]. The enemy from the eastern flank is trying to enter the fortified area itself, testing our defense with frontal measures. At the same time, Russian troops are trying to act more cunningly, coming in from the northeast to bypass the fortification and create a threat of cutting off from the Okhotny district,” Muchnoy wrote.

“This is a classic attempt to clamp with pincers: direct pressure + a retreating maneuver group. If the Russian Armed Forces manage to advance to the northeast, our fighters risk having their communications severed and losing the support line from the rear. That is, the battle for the Poltava bridgehead is not just local but decisive for maintaining the entire front line,” the soldier added.

Kiev forces took heavy losses as a result of recent operations by the Vostok Group of Forces, especially near Podgavrilovka and Privolye in Dnepropetrovsk, as well as close to Novogrigorovka, Sladkoye, Uspenovka, and Gulyaipole in Zaporozhye, according to the Russian MoD.

“The AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) losses amounted to more than 285 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, 12 motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made 115 mm M198 howitzer,” the ministry said in its daily briefing.

Recent videos from Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye indicate that most of the Ukrainian losses were caused by the drone operators of the Vostok Group of Forces.

The Russian military’s near-daily advance in Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye indicate that Ukrainian defenses there are slowly collapsing. While a major breakthrough is unlikely, Kiev forces will not likely be able to hold onto their current front positions in both directions.
