On November 11, the Russian military captured another settlement to the west of the Yanchur River moving closer to the city of Huliapole amid a collapse of Ukrainian defenses in Zaporizhzhia.
The capture of Novouspenivske by the Vostok [East] Group of Forces was first announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The attack on the settlement was launched from Nove, which is located right to the north. It was reportedly led by the 127th Division of the 5th Army. Kiev forces lost two platoons of troops and more than nine units of military equipment while attempting to hold onto the settlement.
Quickly after the capture of Novouspenivske, the Vostok Group of Forces pushed further to the west, with preliminary reports indicating that the Russians managed to storm both Rovnopolie and Yablokovo.
The capture of these two settlements could cause serious problems for Kiev forces. It would allow Russian troops to flank Ukrainian defenses in Zatyshshya, Vesele, Zelenyi Hai and Vysoke which are located to the south. It will also put the troops one step away from the Haichur River.
The ongoing Russian offensive is clearly aimed at Huliapole, a key stronghold of Kiev forces. However, the Vostok Group of Forces will not likely storm the city from its eastern and southern directions only. The group will likely overrun Ukrainian defenses along the Haichur to the north of the city first, to strangle the city.
It is worth noting that the Vostok Group of Forces is already attempting to reach the point where the Haichur and Yanchur split in Dnepropetrovsk, to the north of Huliapole.
Russian troops are currently advancing towards Danylivka on the Yanchur. Once this settlement is captured, the troops will likely attack Ostapivske which is the very last settlement before the bifurcation area.
The ongoing Ukrainian collapse in Zaporizhzhia is a direct result of Kiev’s decision to prioritize the defense of the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk. If the collapse continues to accelerate, Kiev could soon face a serious catastrophe. The battle could quickly move from Huliapole to the city of Zaporizhzhia itself.
