Russian Army Captures Orestopol, Expands Breakthrough In Dnepropetrovsk (Videos)

On November 14, the Russian military captured another settlement in Dnepropetrovsk and expanded its breakthrough towards the Haichur River.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the 9th Combined Arms Army’s 36th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, a part of the Vostok [East] Group of Forces, captured Orestopol after advancing more than four kilometers in Dnepropetrovsk.

“Despite heavy fire and counter-attack attempts, assault groups moved forward in fits and starts holding the pace of combat actions and preventing the enemy from gaining a foothold. Servicemen from Transbaikal acted in a clear and cohesive manner: soldiers quickly took up strongholds, cut off defensive posts, and opened the way for other units,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The units blocked a large AFU fortified area close to Velikomikhaylovka from a southern direction. A vast area of defense of more than 12 square kilometres was brought under control, and more than 250 buildings were mopped up,” it added.

During the battle in Orestopol, Ukraine’s 67th Mechanized Brigade lost more than a company of troops and over ten armored vehicles.

The Vostok Group of Forces could cross the Vovcha River from Orestopol and storm Velykomykhailivka on the other bank. However, Russian troops are more likely to shift focus west along the river, and advance from Oleksiivka, which is already under control, towards Tykhe.

A little to the southwest in Dnepropetrovsk, advance is already underway towards the Ukrainian defense line along the Haichur River.

The Vostok Group of Forces expanded its control to the south of Danylivka, located on the Yanchur River, securing a large area, around 11 square kilometers, and reaching the eastern outskirts of Nechayevka and Radostnoye right on the Haichur.

The loss of these two settlements would be catastrophic for Ukraine’s defensive stance, not just in Dnepropetrovsk, but also in Zaporozhye.

If Russian troops reach on the banks of the Haichur, the enter defense line down to the city of Huliapole, a stronghold of Kiev Forces, will likely collapse within a few weeks, if not days.

Despite the accelerating Russian advance between Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye, Kiev continues to prioritize the defense of the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk. Of course, the battle there is very much already lost. Now, Kiev may be heading towards two defeats in Pokrovsk and Huliapole.
