The Russian military is steadily advancing towards Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk direction, mounting more pressure on Kiev forces around the key city.
As of October 2, the Yug [South] Group of Forces had reportedly cleared the northern outskirts of Kleban-Byk, which is located to the south of Kostiantynivka.
Around 80 Ukrainian troops out of 800 who were originally fighting there are now said to be cornered at a small strip of land along the bank of the reservoir located to the north of the settlement. With no way to escape, these troops will likely surrender very soon.
The Yug Group of Forces dropped leaflets from quadcopters close to the reservoir with instructions for these troops on how to surrender. Four soldiers from the 150th battalion of Ukraine’s 117th brigade have already accepted the offer. They were evacuated to safety with the help of a ground drone, according to video footage that surfaced online.
Once this pocket is cleared, Russian troops will likely resume advance towards the southern outskirts of Kostiantynivka through Nelipivka and Pleshchiivka, which are located to the northeast of Kleban-Byk.
In addition to the recent advance near Kleban-Byk, a renewed push by Russian troops from Oleksandro-Shul’tyne towards the southeastern outskirts of Kostiantynivka was reported. It is very likely that the key city will be first stormed from this direction.
Russian troops have also renewed their advance to the west of Kostiantynivka, moving from Poltavka and Rusyn Yar northwards.
Any breakthrough in this area, for example towards Mykolaipillya, could place the main supply route to Kostiantynivka under Russian fire.
Ukraine does not seem to be optimistic about the situation in Kostiantynivka. Command centers are reportedly being moved to Druzhkovka further to the north. Kiev apparently understands that pressure on the city will increase significantly in coming weeks due to the Russian military’s recent success in other parts of Donetsk, like Seversk and Liman. The fall of any of these cities will allow the Yug Group of Forces to allocate more assets to the attack on Kostiantynivka.
All in all, Kiev forces appear to be attempting to delay the advance of Russian troops towards Kostiantynivka with no real strategy. A counterattack seems highly-unlikely.

i heard a report that ukrainian drone operators now have the highest occupational death rate in this war. another change on the contact line.
when russia finally goes to war with france they can just send that little ground drone over and their entire army will capitulate.
