The Russian military continues to inflict heavy losses on Kiev forces while repelling their ongoing attack in the Kursk region in southwestern Russia.
In its August 11 briefing, the ministry said that the Sever Group of Forces, backed by air and artillery strikes, thwarted several Ukrainian attempts to advance near the settlements of Tolpino, Zhuravli and Obshchiy Kolodez over the past 24 hours.
Four armored personnel carriers, including three American-made Strykers, seven armored fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles were destroyed.
Russian strikes also inflicted heavy losses on Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st and 115th mechanized brigades as well as on the 80th, and 82nd air assault brigades close to the settlements of Staraya Sorochnitsa, Korenevo, Sudzha and Borki, according to the ministry, which said that 35 Ukrainian troops, five tanks, four armored fighting vehicles and three motor vehicles were neutralized.
In addition, the ministry said that a Ukrainian attempt to break through towards Belovsky district was thwarted. It added that Two tanks, one armored fighting vehicle, one field artillery gun, and two ammunition vehicles were destroyed close to Ozerki and Ivanovo.
The Russian military also destroyed a Buk-M1 medium-range air defense system of Kiev forces near the settlement of Lyubimovka using an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile, the ministry said, adding that three launchers and one AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the American-made MIM-104 Patriot long-range air defense system were destroyed close to the settlement of Lebedin in the Ukrainian region of Sumy.
Furthermore, reserves of Kiev forces were targeted by Russian aviation and missile troops on the territory of Sumy across the border.
Russian air defenses also shot down four Tochka-U tactical ballistic missiles and 14 drones over Kursk, according to the ministry.
“Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost over 230 troops and 38 armored vehicles, including seven tanks, three Stryker armored personnel carriers, one infantry fighting vehicle, 28 armored fighting vehicles, as well as seven motor vehicles, four field artillery guns, one Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system’s self-propelled gun, three launchers and one AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the American-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to up to 1,350 Ukrainian troops, 29 tanks, 23 armored personnel carriers, nine infantry fighting vehicles, 116 armored fighting vehicles, 20 motor vehicles, three self-propelled guns of the Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system, three launchers and one AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the American-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, one Grad multiple-launch rocket system launcher and ten field artillery guns,” it added
The ministry also released videos showing some of the recent air, missile and drone strikes that hit Kiev forces in Kursk and Sumy.
Kiev forces backed by mercenaries from several countries, including Poland and France, launched their attack in Kursk early on August 6. Weapons supplied by the United States and other Western allies of the Kiev regime were heavily used, which indicates that the attack was orchestrated with help from NATO.
So far, six Russian civilians have been killed and more than 30 others have been wounded by the Ukrainian attack on Kursk.
The attack also displaced more than 16,000 civilians, with reports of many being targeted by Ukrainian artillery and drones while attempting to flee the region. Some were even reportedly abducted by Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries. The exact number of abductees is still not clear.
The Kiev regime launched the surprise attack on Russian territory even without the approval of its own parliamentary body, the Verkhovna Rada. The attack appears to be a desperate attempt to make up for the recent defeats of Kiev forces, especially in the Donetsk region.
