The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on September 19 that the Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 129th Territorial Defence Brigade near the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Nikolo-Daryino, Tolsty Lug and Plekhovo in the Kursk direction.
In a briefing, the ministry said that the group also foiled several counter-attacks by Kiev forces close to the settlements of Borki, Kremyanoye, Lyubimovka, and Obukhovka.
“As a result, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered losses of up to 20 troops killed and wounded, three armored fighting vehicles, and one motor vehicle. One AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] serviceman was taken prisoner,” it added.
The ministry also announced that the Sever Group of Forces thwarted three Ukrainian attempts to break through the Russian border near the settlements of Novy Put, Malaya Obukhovka, and Medvezhye.
“The AFU sustained losses of up to 30 troops killed and wounded, two infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, four armored fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles,” it detailed in the briefing.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kurilovka, Kruglenkoye, Kolmakov, Kazachya Loknya, Lyubimovka, Leonidovo, Makhnovka, Mikhaylovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Novy Put, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Plekhovo, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th and 107th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Atynskoye, Belovody, Verkheye Peschanoye, Glukhov, Zhuravki, Kondratovka, Kazachye, Katerinovka, Malushino, Obody, Pavlovka, Peremoga, Rechki, Sumy, Shalygino and Khoten in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“In the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 300 troops and 14 armored vehicles, including one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, one armored personnel carrier, and 10 armored fighting vehicles, as well as two artillery guns, one mortar, two electronic warfare stations, and seven motor vehicles. Three pontoon crossings were eliminated,” the ministry said.
Several videos shared by Russian media showed some of Kiev forces recent human and material losses in the Kursk direction.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk in August with support from their backers in NATO. The Russian military attack began earlier this week and has already made major progress.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 14,950 troops, 122 tanks, 52 infantry fighting vehicles, 93 armored personnel carriers, 768 armored fighting vehicles, 464 motor vehicles, 109 artillery guns, 28 launchers, including seven American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, four transport-loading vehicles, 28 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, 14 engineering vehicles, including eight counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.
