Kiev forces sustained heavy losses while attempting to launch counter-attacks in the direction of Kursk, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 23.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that Ukraine’s 21st, 22nd, 41st, and 47th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, and 95th Air Assault Brigades, 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses close to the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Nizhny Klin, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, and Sverdlikovo.
Two counter-attacks were repelled by the Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces near the settlements of Plekhovo and Pokrovsky, according to the ministry, which said that the group also thwarted three attempts to launch counter-attacks near the settlement of Zeleny Shlyakh.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, one tank, and three infantry fighting vehicles, to include one American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. Three AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry said.
The ministry also announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades, and 17th National Guard Brigade.
The gatherings were targeted near the settlements of Aleksandriya, Gogolevka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Loknya, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Oleshnya, Plyokhovo, Rubanshchina, Sverdlikovo, Staraya Sorochina, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 41st, 47th, and 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, and 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, and 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade close to the settlements of Vladimirovka, Iskriskovshchina, Miropolye, Nikolayevka, Obody, Pavlovka, Sumy, Khoten, and Yunakovka in the Ukranian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“The AFU losses amounted to more than 280 troops, 13 armored vehicles including three tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, including one American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, seven armored fighting vehicles, three artillery guns, six motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station. Three AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Separately, Russian media released several videos showing some of the strikes that hit Kiev forces in the Kursk direction in recent days.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack. So far, nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 25,943 troops, 175 tanks, 92 infantry fighting vehicles, 103 armored personnel carriers, 989 armored fighting vehicles, 681 motor vehicles, 224 artillery guns, 38 launchers, including nine American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 55 electronic warfare stations, 11 counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.

seems to me some of these drone grenade drops are a waste. they see where the enemy is grouping and they drop a grenade and maybe kill one or two. we see that. then that group disperses and can no longer be hit so easy. perhaps smarter to wait a while and either target something heavier on that location or get a bunch of drones to all drop at once. there were ten to twenty men in that first vid. they got two i think.
