The Russian military foiled more Ukrainian attempts to attack Russian territory with drones and missiles over the night of July 12 and 13.
In the morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defenses intercepted several drones over the regions of Belgorod, Kursk and Rostov.
“Russian air defense forces on duty intercepted or destroyed two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the Rostov Region, one more UAV over the Belgorod Region and another one over the Kursk Region last night, thwarting an attempt by the Kiev regime to conduct a terrorist attack on Russian soil using UAVs,” the ministry said in a statement.
In Rostov, Governor Vasily Golubev said that the drone attack caused an oil depot in the district of Tsimlyansk to catch fire. No other losses were reported.
“An oil depot in the Tsimlyansky District caught fire at about 4:00 a.m. (1:00 a.m. GMT – TASS) following a drone attack. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties,” he wrote on Telegram.
Later in the afternoon, the Russian MoD said in its daily briefing that two American-made MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles and a Soviet-made S-200 anti-aircraft missile modified to attack ground targets were intercepted.
Six American-made HIMARS rockets and 17 drones were also downed by Russian air defenses, according to the ministry, which didn’t provide any further details.
The Kiev regime intensified attacks on Russia with the start of the year, damaging infrastructure and killing and wounding a number of civilians. In response, the Russian military resumed group strikes on military infrastructure and related energy facilities in Ukraine last March.
