The Russian military had foiled an attempt by Ukrainian commandos to land in the Crimea Peninsula, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on October 4.
A Ukrainian commando unit was heading towards Cape Tarkhankut on the western edge of the peninsula, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the unit was traveling on a military motor boat and three jet skis.
“The Kiev regime’s attempts to carry out terror attacks against facilities in Russia were thwarted. … In the northwest section of the Black Sea, planes of Russia’s Aerospace Forces prevented a Ukrainian assault force, which headed towards Cape Tarhankut using a high-speed boat and three water scooters, from infiltrating the territory of Crimea,” statement reads.
In the same statement, the ministry said that 31 Ukrainian suicide drones were “intercepted and destroyed” overnight in the western Russian regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk.
At least 19 of the drones were shot down over Belgorod, according to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, who said that an office building in the region’s center as well as a home and three cars in the countryside were damaged by debris. No casualties were reported by the governor.
In addition, several Russian regional officials reported cross-border shelling by Kiev forces, but added that no one was hurt.
Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz said several houses were hit by fire from multiple rocket launchers. Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Glakdov, meanwhile, wrote on Telegram that at least 12 houses were damaged in the town of Grayvoron.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks in an attempt to save face after the failure of its highly-touted counteroffensive.
The last wave of Ukrainian attacks came as the so-called “spring counteroffensive” concluded its fourth month. So far, Kiev forces have failed to break through Russian defenses in any direction, despite sustaining heavy losses in manpower and equipment.
