The Russian military launched 35 group strikes against targets in Ukraine during the week in response to recent attacks by Kiev forces on energy and industrial facilities in Russia, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on April 27.
“From 20 April to 27 April 2024 … the Russian Armed Forces have carried out 35 group strikes by high-precision sea- and air-launched missiles, including Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile as well as unmanned aerial vehicles to hit Ukrainian power industry, military and railway enterprises, air defense systems, arsenals, fuel bases, manufacturing and repair facilities for uncrewed surface vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry said in a briefing.
It added that temporary deployment areas of nationalist formations and foreign mercenaries, clusters of Kiev’s manpower and military hardware were also hit at railway loading stations.
The ministry also provided details on the Russian military’s recent defensive and offensive actions in the special military operation zone in the same briefing.
The Zapad Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on 13 Ukrainian brigades during the week close to Glushkovka, Petropavlovka, Sinkovka -in the Kharkov region-, Novoyegorovka, Stelmakhovka -in the Lugansk region-, Torskoye -in the Donetsk region- and the Serebryansky forestry, according to the ministry.
It added that the group also repelled nine counter-attacks by the 12th Azov Special Forces Brigade, the 3rd Assault, the 63rd Mechanised brigades as well as the 12th and 18th national guard brigades near Chervonaya Dibrova, Novovodyanoye -in Lugansk-, Grigorovka and Terny -in Donetsk-.
“The AFU [Armed Force of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 255 Ukrainian troops, three armored fighting vehicles, 21 motor vehicles, 27 field artillery guns, including five United States-made M777 howitzers as well as two U.S.-made counter-battery warfare stations -AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-50-,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the Yug Group of Forces also liberated Novomikhailovka and Bogdanovka in Donetsk- and advanced into the depths of Ukrainian defenses.
In addition, the group targeted two Ukrainian airborne, four assault and then mechanized brigades near Andreyevka, Belogorovka, Kleshcheyevka, Kurdyumovka, Maksimilyanovka, Minkovka, Paraskoviyevka, Spornoye and Ostroye -in Donetsk-.
19 counter-attacks by the 46th Airmobile, 80th Air Assault, 28th, 33rd, 41st and 93rd mechanized brigades were also repelled by the group close to Bogdanovka, Georgiyevka, Pobeda, Krasnogorovka, Chasov Yar and west of Krasnoye -in Donetsk-.
“The enemy has lost more than 3,890 Ukrainian troops, four tanks, nine armored fighting vehicles, 51 motor vehicles, 22 field artillery guns, including one Paladin self-propelled artillery system and five U.S.-made M777 howitzers in this direction during the week,” the ministry said. “In addition, 17 electronic warfare stations -Nota, Anklav, Bukovel-AD- and 22 field ammunition depots of the enemy have been wiped out.”
Meanwhile, the Tsentr Group of Forces improved the situation along the frontline, inflicted damage on 12 brigades of Kiev forces and repelled 63 counter-attacks close to Leninskoye, Novgorodskoye, Novokalinovo, Ocheretino, Berdychi, Umanskoye and Netailovo -in Donetsk- during the week, the ministry said.
“More than 2,950 Ukrainian troops, 33 armored fighting vehicles, 33 motor vehicles, 29 field artillery guns, with six of them foreign-made as well as five electronic warfare stations -Nota and Bukovel-AD- have been eliminated during the week,” it added.
The ministry also said that the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on the formations of the 58th Mechanised Brigade, 102nd, 106th, 128th territorial defense brigades and the 1st Ukrainian National Guard Brigade near Ugledar, Urozhaynoye, Staromayorskoye -in Donetsk-, Chervonoye and Gulyai Pole -in the Zaporozhye region-.
“The AFU losses amounted to up to 825 Ukrainian troops, two tanks, seven armored fighting vehicles, 28 motor vehicles, 11 field artillery guns, including nine U.S.-made howitzers, five electronic warfare stations -Nota, Anklav, Bukovel-AD- and four field ammunition depots,” it said.
And the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted damage on five Ukrainian brigades, the Marines Brigade, three territorial defense brigades and a Ukrainian National Guard brigade during the week close to Malaya Tokmachka, Rabotino, Novoandreyevka, Shcherbaki -in Zaporozhye-, Mikhailovka, Ivanovka and Berislav -in the Kherson region-, according to the ministry.
“The AFU losses amounted to up to 360 Ukrainian troops, one armored fighting vehicle, 30 motor vehicles and 20 field artillery guns, including eight U.S.-made M777 howitzers,” it said.
Also in the briefing, the ministry said that the Missile Troops and Artillery and drones of the Russian Groups of Forces have obliterated one MiG-29 warplane of the Ukrainian Air Force in its home airfield; eight HIMARS, Vampire and Grad multiple rocket launchers; one S-300PS air defense launcher with a command post and radar; two HAWK and Osa-AKM air defense systems; and two radar stations -P-18 and Pelikan-.
In addition, Russian air defenses shot down Mig-29 and Su-25 warplanes, 18 French-made Hammer guided bombs, one Tochka-U tactical ballistic missile, 35 projectiles of HIMARS, Olkha and Uragan launchers as well as 1,659 unmanned aerial vehicles during the week, according to the ministry.
It also revealed that 15 Ukrainian service members surrendered to the Russian military in different directions during the week.
“In total, 593 airplanes and 270 helicopters, 23,541 unmanned aerial vehicles, 509 air defense missile systems, 15,864 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,275 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 9,167 field artillery cannons and mortars as well as 21,336 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation,” the ministry concluded.
Short on equipment, supplies and manpower, Kiev forces appear to be slowly collapsing in several directions. On the other hand, the Russian military is improving its fire power and speeding up its ground operations every single day.
