Russian Army Makes Breakthroughs In Kupyansk, Krasny Liman & Seversk (Videos)

On October 30, the Russian military broke through Ukrainian defenses near the city of Kupyansk in Kharkiv, and moved closer to the cities of Krasny Liman and Seversk in Donetsk.

The Zapad [West] Group of Forces, which is already in control of most of Kupyansk, advanced to the south of the city and captured Sadove, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The capture of Sadove made any attempt to reinforce or supply Ukrainian troops still fighting in the center and southern part of Kupyansk near impossible, as it gave Russian troops complete dominance over the road leading to the city along the Oskil River.

This breakthrough, in addition to another one reported a few days earlier between Pishchane and Kurylivka to the southeast of Kupyansk, could soon cause a complete collapse of Ukrainian defenses to the east of Oskil, at least down to Zhyvotivka.

Kiev forces could launch a counterattack somewhere close to Kupyansk. However, it is highly unlikely that there are enough troops to make any real impact.

Moving to the south in Donetsk, the Yug [South] Group of Forces broke through Ukrainian defenses to the southeast and south of Krasny Liman.

Russian troops have reportedly entered the Maslyakovka district, and are now fighting in the center, on Vishnyovaya Street.

Another breakthrough was reported to the northwest of Krasny Liman, where Russian troops advanced through the forested area along the railway and reached the eastern outskirts of the city. According to these reports, which are yet to be confirmed, the troops took control of the transport interchange close to the northern entrance to the city.

The battle for Krasny Liman has clearly begun. Ukraine will likely attempt to hold onto the city, instead of withdrawing to more favorable defensive positions along the Siverskyi Donets River to the west.

Moving further to the south in Donetsk, the Yug Group of Forces is reported to be advancing towards the southern entrance of Seversk.

Russian troops are advancing towards the entrance of the city from Vyimka, mainly moving along the railroad. The troops also expanded control to the west of the settlement, putting more pressure on Kiev forces in Zvanivka, the last settlement before the city from the south.

It’s worth noting that Russian troops are also near the northern entrance of Seversk. Thus, the battle of the city could begin any day.

The Ukrainian collapse slowly taking shape in Kupyansk, Krasny Liman and Seversk is a direct result of the lack of any real military planning by Kiev. For most of this year, Ukraine has been attempting to hold onto every area, even where defensive operations are practically impossible, with no strategy whatsoever. The Russian military has been successfully capitalizing on this by constantly shifting operations from one area to another.
