On August 1 and 2, the Russian military advanced in the direction of Kuzyomovka in the Luhansk region, pushing Kiev forces further back.
The Russian Zapad Group of Forces said that a motorized rifle brigade of the 1st Tank Army seized eight strongholds and four dugouts in the Kuzyomovka direction. The brigade also destroyed three machine guns and eliminated up to a company of infantry from Ukraine’s 32nd Separate Mechanised Brigade and 25th Separate Airborne Brigade to the southwest of the Les Popov tract.
In addition, Ka-52 and Mi-35 attack helicopters as well as Su-25 attack aircraft of the group carried out 13 airstrikes against gatherings of the 14th Separate Mechanised Brigade and Territorial Defense units in the same direction. Meanwhile, artillery strikes destroyed a D-30 towed howitzer and a mortar near Berestovoye.
The group’s S-300 and Buk air defense systems also repelled a Ukrainian attack with HIMARS precision-guided rockets against Russian military positions.
Meanwhile in the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces repelled an attack west of Staromayorsky. An infantry fighting vehicle was destroyed and a number of Ukrainian troops were killed there.
The group’s artillery also destroyed a pickup truck near Novomikhailovka, a mortar close to the Oktyabr State Farm and an ammunition depot to the south of Zolotaya Niva.
Using drones, the group destroyed a Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer in Vremovka and a Giatsint-B towed howitzer to the northwest of Novodonetsk. A communications center of Kiv forces in Novomikhailovka was also destroyed by the group’s aviation.
In the Zaporozhye direction, the Vostok Group of Forces targeted Ukrainian gatherings near Rabotino. Several military vehicles were destroyed with multiple rocket launchers, artillery, attack helicopters and loitering munitions. The group’s artillery also destroyed an ammunition depot north of Temirovka.
Temporary deployment areas of Kiev forces near Priyutnoye, Novodanilovka and Zherebyanka were also targeted by the group’s aviation.
In addition, Russian news sources released videos of recent strikes with Lancet loitering munitions in several directions. The strikes destroyed a German-made IRIS-T SLM air defense system, a Polish-made PT-91 tank, an American-made M777 towed howitzer and two Ukrainian-made BTR-4 infantry fighting vehicles of Kiev forces.
Ukraine launched its counteroffensive more than eight weeks ago. Despite sustaining heavy human and material losses, Kiev forces are still struggling to make any meaningful gains. In fact, their situation appears to be worsening as the Russian military is now slowly advancing in multiple directions.
