The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces while repelling several attacks in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on September 26.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that Ukraine’s 21st, 22nd, 41st mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade and 36th Marine Brigade as well as the 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses close to the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, and Plekhovo.
It added that a counter-attack by Kiev forces was repelled close to the settlement of Obukhovka. During the failed counter-attack 15 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded. Two armored fighting vehicles and one motor vehicle were also destroyed.
The Sever Group of Forces also thwarted three Ukrainian attempts to break through the Russian border close to the settlements of Novy Put and Medvezhye, according to the ministry.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, four armored fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
Additionally, the ministry announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades and 36th Marine Brigade as well as 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades.
The gatherings were targeted near the settlements of Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kruglenkoye, Kubatkin, Knyazhy Pervy, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Tolsty Lug and Yuzhny.
Other Russian strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 101st, 103rd, 106th and 129th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Barilo, Belovody, Byvalino, Vorozhba, Zhuravka, Glukhov, Gurinovka, Zarutskoye, Iskriskovshchina, Kislaya Dubina, Katerinovka, Pavlovka, Rechki, Starye Virki, Stetskovka, Sumy, Shalygino and Khoten.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 340 troops and 12 armored fighting vehicles as well as four artillery guns and 11 motor vehicles,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
The ministry released several videos showing some of the Russian strikes that targeted Kiev forces in the Kursk direction recently.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk in August with support from their backers in NATO. The Russian military attack began earlier this week and has already made major progress.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 17,400 troops, 130 tanks, 62 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armored personnel carriers, 824 armored fighting vehicles, 525 motor vehicles, 142 artillery guns, 31 launchers, including eight American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 35 electronic warfare stations, eight counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, 18 engineering vehicles, including 11 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and one armored recovery vehicle.
