The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled a Ukrainian counter-attack near the settlement of Apanasovka in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its September 11 briefing.
The ministry added that Kiev forces attempted to advance towards the settlements of Cherkasskaya Konopelka, Borki and Fanaseyevka with no success.
During these failed advance attempts, around 30 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded and ten others were captured by the Russian military. In addition, two main battle tanks, an armored fighting vehicle and six motor vehicles of Kiev forces were destroyed.
Russian air and artillery strikes also hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 41st, 61st, and 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, and 95th air assault brigades, 1st Presidential Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 103rd and 129th brigades, according to the ministry.
The units were targeted near the settlements of Borki, Byakhovo, Guyevo, Vichnyovka, Daryino, Zeleny Shliyakh, Kolmakov, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Martynovka, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Orlovka, Snagost and Uspenovka.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, foreign mercenaries and reserves of the 22nd, 41st, and 54th mechanized brigades, 80th, 82nd air assault brigades, 1st Presidential Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th, 107th, and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Akhtyrka, Belopolye, Bititsa, Glukhov, Semyonovka, Stepanovka, Sumy, Svessa, Peschanoye, Pavlovka, Pustogorod, Radyanskoye, Rossoshi, Raki and Yampol in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“In the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 350 troops and 13 armored vehicles, including three tanks, three armored personnel carriers, seven armored fighting vehicles, an artillery gun, two MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems], and 19 motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
Russian media had released videos showing some of the strikes that targeted troops, equipment and positions of Kiev forces in Kursk and Sumy recently.
Relying mainly on foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons, Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk in August.
Since the start of the attack, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 143 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military launched a counter-attack in Kursk earlier this week. So far, nearly a dozen settlements have been reportedly liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 12,200 troops, 96 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 77 armored personnel carriers, 656 armored fighting vehicles, 401 motor vehicles, 90 artillery guns, 26 launchers, including American-made HIMARS and five MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, two transport-loading vehicles, 22 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, eight engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.
