The Russian Ministry of Defense said on October 19 that the Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several Ukrainian formations and repelled another counter-attack by Kiev forces in the direction of Kursk.
Ukraine’s 22nd, 47th, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades took loses close to the settlements of Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Nizhny Klin, Nikolsky, Novy Put, Olgovka, Plyokhovo, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, according to the ministry’s daily briefing.
Also in the briefing, the ministry said that a counter attack by Kiev forces was repelled near the settlement of Leonidovo.
In addition, Russian air and artillery strikes hit the 17th Tank Brigade, 41st, 47th, 61st mechanized brigades, 80th Air Assault Brigade, and 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade close to the settlements of Daryino, Zhuravka, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Oleshnya, Olgovka, Porechnoye, and Sverdlikovo, per the ministry.
Other strikes targeted the reserves of the 22nd, 61st mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 115th Assault Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, as well as the 101st, 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Basovka, Belovody, Belokopytovo, Vodolagi, Pavlovka, Revyakino, and Studenok in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to more than 270 troops and nine units of hardware, including three infantry fighting vehicles, one armored personnel carrier, five armored fighting vehicles as well as four artillery guns and three motor vehicles,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Separately, Russian media released several videos showing some of the strikes that hit Kiev forces in the Kursk direction in recent days.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack. So far, nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 24,740 troops, 167 tanks, 82 infantry fighting vehicles, 102 armored personnel carriers, 957 armored fighting vehicles, 654 motor vehicles, 204 artillery guns, 38 launchers, including nine American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 48 electronic warfare stations, nine counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.
