The Russian military has targeted two more German-made IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems of Kiev forces.
Video footage showing the attack on an IRIS-T system surfaced online on July 13. The footage showed a Lancet loitering munition slamming into one of the system’s launchers, setting it on fire. It is still unclear where exactly the targeted system was deployed.
On July 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense released video footage showing an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile hitting another IRIS-T system. The strike took place close to the settlement of Volosskoye in the Dnepropetrovsk region.
According to the ministry, the system’s TRML-4D fire control radar and one of the launchers were destroyed as a result of the strike.
After the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, Germany promised to supply Kiev forces with 12 complete IRIS-T SLM systems and 12 IRIS-T SLS systems. The SLM has a range of 40 kilometers and a 20 kilometer altitude, while the SLS’ range and altitude is limited to 12 kilometers.
Not all the systems promised by Germany have been supplied to Ukraine yet and most of those that arrived in Ukraine have been destroyed or damaged by the Russian military.
The Russian military intensified strikes on Ukrainian air defenses in recent months, destroying dozens of radars and air defense systems, including Western-made ones.
