On December 6, the Russian military expanded its control near the key city of Huliaipole and developed operations between the settlements of Stepnohirsk and Prymorske further to the west in Zaporizhzhia.
The Vostok [East] Group of Forces advanced in the northeastern and northern outskirts of Huliaipole, capturing an area of more than 8,5 kilometers. Russian troops reached the road that enters the city from the north along the Haichur River, although it is still unclear yet if it was physically cut.
In addition, the troops began an attack on Zelenoe, the first settlement along the Haichur to the north of Huliaipole. The capture of this important settlement would grant the Vostok Group of Forces complete control over the northern outskirts of the city.
Further north along the Haichur, fierce battles continued between Dobropillya, already under Russian control, and Varvarivka.
It’s worth noting that intense air and artillery strikes continued to hit Ukrainian fortifications inside Huliaipole in preparation for a major assault. In addition, drone units of the Vostok Group of Forces are targeting any movement by Kiev forces on all roads leading to the city.
To the west in Zaporizhzhia, the battle continues between Stepnohirsk and Prymorske, with the Vostok Group of Forces making gains in both settlements.
Russian troops expanded their control to the east and west of Stepnohirsk, securing around 5,2 square kilometers. Kiev forces are currently trapped in a few high-rise buildings at the center of the settlement. The battle there will likely be over before the end of the year, if Ukraine fails to launch an effective counterattack.
Meanwhile in Prymorske, fierce fighting is taking place. Half of the settlement is reported to be in the hands of Russian troops. However, the situation there remains very fluid.
The collapse around Huliaipole and the other taking shape between Stepnohirsk and Prymorske reflect major problems within Kiev forces in Zaporizhzhia. These forces clearly lack the resources to hold the frontline, especially manpower. Despite this, Ukraine is trying to hold as much as possible for as long as possible.
