The Russian military has thwarted a series of attacks with missiles and drones on the Crimean Peninsula as well as the regions of Kursk, Moscow and Belgorod.
The first attack targeted Kursk on the dusk of October 6. The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that a Ukrainian suicide drone was shot down by air defense over the region at around 07:00 p.m. local time. No casualties or losses were reported.
More than three hours later, air defense systems of a small missile boat of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet destroyed a Ukrainian suicide drone ten kilometers off the Crimean Peninsula, according to a separate statement by the ministry.
“At around 10:30 p.m. an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on Russian soil with the use of a drone was thwarted. Air defense forces of a small missile boat detected and destroyed a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle 10 km southwest of the Crimean Peninsula,” the ministry said.
Within a few minutes, a helicopter of the Black Sea Fleet’s aviation detected and destroyed a Ukrainian naval suicide drone that was heading to Crimea. The ministry said in a statement that the attack took place at about 10:45 a.m. and was thwarted by the naval helicopter.
“During a patrol, a Ka-29 helicopter of the Black Sea Fleet’s naval aviation spotted and destroyed in the northwestern part of the Black Sea a seaborne drone of the Ukrainian military heading towards the Crimean Peninsula,” the statement reads.
Later in the early hours of October 7, a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow was repelled by Russian air defenses, according to the ministry.
“At 5:05 a.m., an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on facilities in or outside Moscow was thwarted. Air defense forces on duty destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Istra municipality in the Moscow Region,” the ministry said in a statement.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on the Telegram messingin application that the failed attack didn’t result in any casualties or material losses.
Some five hours later, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Kiev forces had launched three Tochka-U tactical ballistic missiles at targets in Belgorod.
“Today, at about 10:00 p.m., an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on targets on the territory of the Russian Federation using three Tochka-U operational-tactical missiles was thwarted,” the ministry said in a statement.
All three Ukrainian missiles were destroyed over the region by air defense systems on duty, according to the statement. No casualties or material losses were reported.
After the first attacks on Russian territory, a series of strikes hit the Ukrainian region of Odessa. The strikes were reportedly launched by the Russian military with P-800 Oniks supersonic cruise missiles. The Russian MoD is yet to confirm this.
None of the missiles were intercepted. Port infrastructure and industrial facilities were reportedly damaged as a result of the strikes.
Ukraine stepped up drone and missile attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks after its counteroffensive came to a halt. The attacks will likely increase in upcoming weeks as Kiev forces make a last ditch effort to break through Russian defenses before winter.
