The Russian military has destroyed an air defense system and a radar station of Kiev forces in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, Russian media reported on August 25.
An Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile strike destroyed a Soviet-made Buk-M1 medium-range air defenses system near the settlement of Gritsenkovo.
Meanwhile near the settlement of Shevchenkovo, a Lancet loitering munition strike took out a Soviet-made ST-68 aerial surveillance radar.
Kiev forces had some 70 Buk-M1 systems before the start of the Russian special military operation. Some of these systems were already upgraded to the Buk-M1-2 standard. Ukraine also inherited dozens of ST-68 from the Soviet Union, with many upgraded in recent years.
Earlier this month, Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries launched a surprise attack from Sumy into the neighboring Russian region of Kursk.
The Russian military halted the attack within a few days and has since inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces. According to the latest briefing by the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine has lost five air defense systems and a radar station since the start of the attack.
