Two Ukrainian suicide drones were intercepted en route to Moscow in the early hours of September 17, while at least half a dozen attempted to strike targets in the Crimean Peninsula and another attacked Voronezh, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry said in two sperate statements that a suicide drone was detected and destroyed at around 1:45 am local time over the Istra district in Moscow, while another drone was intercepted over the Domodedovo district around two hours later.
According to preliminary information, there were no casualties or damage on the ground. However, Moscow’s three main airports, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo, were briefly shut down as a precaution.
Another “attempted Ukrainian terrorist attack was thwarted” in Crimea, with two drones shot down off the western coast of the peninsula around 1:15 am local time, according to a statement by the Russian MoD.
Four more drones were intercepted off the northwestern and eastern coast of Crimea between 1:45 am and 2:20 am, the ministry said in another statement.
Local authorities in the peninsula didn’t report any casualties or material losses as a result of the failed Ukrainian drone attack.
The last attack targeted Voronezh around 9:40 am. The Russian MoD said that a single suicide drone was shot down over the region. There were no losses, however.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks as its forces were struggling to advance across the frontline in the special military operation zone. Despite sustaining heavy human and material losses, Kiev forces made very few gains.
With a few weeks left before the weather began to worsen, the Ukrainian counteroffensive appears to be on its way to complete failure. Kiev will likely further increase missile and drone attacks on Russian territory with help from NATO and other allies.
