On September 1, the Russian military thwarted two attempts by Kiev forces to attack the regions of Moscow and Belgorod with suicide drones.
In a statement ,the Russian Ministry of Defense said that a suicide drone was shot down by air defenses while it was heading towards Moscow in the early morning.
“This morning, the Air Defense Troops foiled another attempt of the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with an aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone was destroyed in the air over the territory of the Lyubertsy district of the Moscow Region by the air defense units on duty,” the ministry said.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on Telegram that the failed drone attack didn’t result in any casualties or material losses.
Later on in the morning, another Ukrainian suicide drone was intercepted by air defenses over Belgorod, according to the Russian MoD.
“This morning at 7:30 a.m. Moscow time, the Russian forces foiled the Kiev regime’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack on Russian facilities with an aircraft-type drone. The unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed by air defense systems over the Belgorod Region,” the ministry said.
The region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed the information, adding that there were no casualties or material damage.
“Our air defense system has worked in the Belgorod Region – an airplane-type drone was shot down. Operational services are clarifying information about the consequences on the ground,” the governor wrote on his Telegram channel.
In a related development, more attacks by Kiev forces were reported in several directions within the special military operation zone.
Alexander Savchuk, a spokesman for the Russian Tsentr Group of Forces, told TASS on September 1 that the battlegroup had repelled four Ukrainian attacks in the direction of Krasny Liman.
“In the areas of the Torsky ledge and the Serebryansky forestry of the Krasny Liman direction, battlegroup Tsentr’s units, artillery, and aviation repelled four attacks by assault groups of the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine]’s 42nd, 63rd and 67th Mechanized Brigades,” the spokesman said. “The adversary’s overall losses in this direction stood at over 40 militants.”
The group’s air defense systems also shot down three Ukrainian drones and a HIMARS precision-guided rocket, according to Savchuk.
In addition, up to 20 Ukrainian artillery positions were located and suppressed in the course of counterbattery warfare. At least one Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer was destroyed.
From its side, Yug Group of Forces announced that its aviation had targeted four temporary deployment points of Ukraine’s 28th Separate Mechanised Brigade and 3rd Separate Assault Brigade in the direction of Belaya Gora.
The group also launched strikes against gatherings of manpower and equipment near Spornoye, Belogorovka, Klescheevka, Novgorodskoye, Avdeevka and Krasnogorovka. Moreover, TOS-1A multiple rocket launchers targeted Ukrainian troops close to Klescheevka.
In addition, the group’s artillery targeted a drone command post of Kiev forces in Krasnogorovka and one temporary deployment point near Kurakhovo.
The group also destroyed one Msta-B towed howitzer near Aleksandro-Schultino, seven 120 mm and 82 mm mortars close to Lisichansk and Mariynka with artillery fire. Furthermore, two dugouts along with infantry near Razdolovka were targeted with FPV suicide drones.
Meanwhile, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces announced that it had repelled another Ukrainian attack near Priyutnoye in the South Donetsk direction. The group also disrupted an attempt by Kiev forces to rotate forces near Novodarovka.
In addition, the group’s artillery targeted a deployment point and an ammunition depot in Konstantinovka, another temporary deployment point in Urozhainy, one American-made M119 towed howitzer in the Velikaya Novoselka as well as a pickup truck and a portable mortar on an ATV in the Oktyabr State Farm.
The group also destroyed several mortars near Makarovka and north of Nikolskoye as well as a number of Msta-B towed howitzers close to Ilyinka and Shakhterskoye with artillery fire.
Moreover, a Ukrainian main battle tank was destroyed with a Lancet loitering ammunition near Olgovsky. Several airstrikes also targeted gatherings of manpower and equipment in the areas of Ugledar, Zolotaya Niva, Staromayorsky and Urozhayny.
An Osa short-range air defense system of the group also shot down a Ukrainian Valkyrie reconnaissance drone over South Donetsk.
And in the Kupyansky direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces captured a Ukrainian stronghold, destroying up to two platoons of infantry and capturing six troops. At the same time, four counterattacks were repelled by the group and units from the 32nd, 41st and 68th brigades.
The group’s artillery fire also destroyed three American-made M109 self-propelled howitzers, one Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer, one D-30 towed howitzers, three mortars and a MaxPro armored vehicle close to Novosergeevka, Tabaevka, Peschanoye and Lozovaya.
Kiev forces lost around a company of infantry during recent battles in the Kupyansk direction, according to the Zapad Group of Forces.
In the Zaporozhye direction, Ukraine lost over 150 personnel in a failed attack close to Rabotino, according to the region’s acting governor Yevgeny Balitsky.
“From 7:30 a.m. in the morning, the enemy’s brigades numbering about 200 troops attempted to penetrate Rabotino from the northern direction on lightly armored and motor vehicles. A massive strike was delivered on the enemy, as a result of which they [Ukrainian troops] suffered heavy casualties and had to give up offensive operations. The Ukrainian military lost 156 soldiers,” the regional head wrote on his Telegram channel.
As the regional head said, “Kiev’s military commanders again let a company of mobilized Ukrainian soldiers perish on the Zaporozhye front.”
And in the Kherson direction, a Ukrainian 120 mm mortar was destroyed along with its crew and ammunition, a spokesman for the regional emergency services reported, adding that a boat with six personnel was also sunk.
“Units of the Dnepr battlegroup inflicted damage on the enemy by firepower in the Kherson direction, destroying a boat with six Ukrainian militants, a 120mm mortar with its team and ammunition (casualties: three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and four others received wounds of varying severity,” the spokesman said.
Russian forces also targeted two Ukrainian army positions in the island zone and a temporary deployment point in the Kakhovka direction, he added.
In addition, Russian news sources shared videos showing a ballistic missile strike against a Ukrainian command post in the Donetsk direction, recent strikes by attack helicopters against armored vehicles in the Bakhmut direction and recent airstrikes on Rabotino in the Zaporozhye direction.
Despite its recent losses, Kiev forces will not likely halt their counteroffensive any time soon. The counteroffensive will likely go on well into winter.
