On October 17th, the Russian ministry of Defense officially confirmed the full control of the village of Maksimilyanovka located on the eastern outskirts of the town of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
The assault and the mop up operations were launched and completed by forces of the South group of forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this direction amounted to 965 servicemen, a 155-mm M777 howitzer made in the USA and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers. The Enclave-N electronic warfare station and four ammunition depots were destroyed.
Retreating Ukrainian forces (18+):
The Russian army entered Maksimilyanovka back in June 2024 immediately the neighboring Georgievka came under its control. After months of positional battles on the eastern outskirts, Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defense in September when their offensive operations resumed in all directions in the Donbass.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted to resist on the western outskirts of the village but they were finally forced to retreat after they were surrounded from the north. Russian forces launched attacks north of Maksimilyanovka. On September 22, the village of Ostroe came under Russian control. On October 11, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the full control of Ostrovskoe. LINK As a result of Russian advance, Ukrainian defense on the western outskirts of Maksimilianovka was threatened with flank attacks and Russian forces cut off the road to Kurakhovo, while Russians continued attacks from Grigorovka in the east and Ostroe in the north.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are hastily reinforcing their defense on the eastern and northeastern outskirts of the town of Kurakhovo which was turned into Ukrainian stronghold and is still an important logistics hub of the Ukrainian units operating in the Donetsk direction. The 46th aeromobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is rapidly mining the eastern outskirts, reinforcing strongholds, equipping fake firing points in an attempt to slow down Russian offensive.
