On March 17, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the full Russian control of the village of Mirnoe in the Zaporozhie region. The settlement is located southwest of the town of Gulyai-Pole. The Russian victory may mark the beginning of a large-scaled offensive in a new direction.
Russian assault units of the 35th Army of the Vostok group of forces have repelled the units of the 203rd Battalion of the 108 Brigade of the Ukrainian territorial Defense from the village of Mirnoe.
According to the reports from the front, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to counterattack in the village but achieved no success. In total, during the recent clashes, the Ukrainian military reportedly lost more than 15 servicemen killed, and several armored vehicles destroyed. Ukrainian attempts to bring reserves into battle were thwarted.
Before the attack on the village, Russian reconnaissance unit launched a raid in the village. During the operation, Russian servicemen entered one of the houses, where they found the bodies of two elderly people murdered in their beds.
The frontlines in the area near Gulyai-Pole have remained unchanged since last summer. At the end of February, 2024, the first successful Russian attack was reported near the village of Marfopol located on the southern outskirts of Gulyai-Pole. The ongoing Russian advances are yet to bring strategic victories on the Zaporozhie frontlines; but their successful attacks will definately force the Ukrainian military to reinforce their defense in the area. Thus, the AFU will have to transfer additional forces from other directions, for example, from the area near Rabotino.
