The Russian Defense Ministry will get 10 electromagnetic warfare helicopters equipped with Richag-AV active jammer this year, the adviser to the First Deputy of the CEO of Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), Vladimir Mikheev, told the TASS news agency on Tuesday.
As previously reported, the military received two specialized Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters in the second quarter of this year.
The concern claims that the Richag-AV active jammer is able to ‘blind’ an enemy within a few hundred kilometers, as well as to suppress multiple targets. In addition, the system has a database of various types of threats for covered up objects that allows to determine the type of a target and select the most effective jamming.
The Richag-AV active jammer system was developed in the Kaluga Research Radio Engineering Institute. The system use the DRFM (Digital Radio Frequency Memory – digital processing and recording of radio signals) technology for forming signals. The technology ensures stable reception of radar signals and jamming throughout the range.
In 2013, the Russian Defense Ministry signed a contract with KRET for the series production of 18 Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters. Final assembly of the helicopters is carried out at the Kazan Optical and Mechanical Plant.
Under the contract, the whole batch must be delivered to the troops until October 15 of this year.

Russia is actually the world leader in electronic warfare and defense. Having entire brigades dedicated to electronic warfare and counter electronic warfare. The US lag’s behind, thankfully. It is worth mentioning that Iran is the #2 leader in electronic warfare and defense against Electronic warfare. Russia and Iran really need to work together more. Two Monotheist nations united against Polytheist-UK and Atheist-US. Yep yep yep YEP!
