On January 6, Russian fighters shared a video showing their positions in the center of the city of Soledar in the DPR. The video confirmed that Russian forces had reached the area of the Salt Mine No. 1-3.
Wagner fighters have significantly advanced in the area in recent days. The day before, reports from the front lines claimed that the Russian mop up operation in Bakhmutskoe ended with the Russian control of the village on the outskirts of Soledar. To the south-east, the Dekonskaya railway station was recently taken by Russian forces.
On the southern outskirts, fighting is ongoing in the area of Krasnaya Gora. Russian successes threaten Ukrainian military supplies to the garrison in Soledar and the AFU may risk to find themselves in encirclement.

At the same time, Russian fighters broke through Ukrainian defences on the northern outskirts of the city. Last night, Russian troops reportedly managed to take control of several AFU strongholds north of Soledar and reached the settlement of Krasnopolevka.
So far, Wagner fighters have not only taken control of Bakhmutskoe but they have also significantly advanced towards the center of Soledar from different directions. The AFU are retreating to the north-western districts of the city.
On the other hand, the mines area in Soledar are an important Ukrainian stronghold which will slow down Russian advance.
Soledar is an important stronghold of Ukrainian defense along the Seversk-Soledar-Bakhmut (Artemovsk) line. Russian victory in the city will sharply complicate the situation of the Bakhmut garrison of the AFU.

I told many times previously, almost 2 month ago, that Soledar is the key for Bakhmut and now I will ‘decree’ that Bakhmut is the key for the Slaviansk. And Slaviansk is the key for a totally ruined bandera nazi north frontline. PERIOD.
Seal the mine openings and air vents and place snipers around any place they may be able to Infil/Exfil from…………….their corpses will be preserved by the salt for easy disposal after they run out of food and water.
Russia can store artillery shells in those mines safely, procted from Himars, for the future push west.
This is exactly what the Ukrianians are doing currently. The mines have several entrances and shafts. The easiest thing to do would be set fires and smoke them out. Or to flood the mimes after which they can be drained in a matter of days.

Journalist Yury Butusov sends a message this morning from the Salt mine in Soledar, where a group of PMC Wagner mercenaries reportedly broke into yesterday. Apparently the AFU counterattacked overnight. He mentioned the newly created 46th brigade now defends the city.

As I look at this war ravaged city I remember this didn’t have to be this way. Every deal the Russians put on the table in 2013 right up to 2022 was rejected by the American led West. All the blood that has been spilled.
