The Russian Military Police faced a new attempt of U.S. forces to block their movement in the northeastern al-Hasakah countryside.
The incident took place on June 17 when a convoy of the Russian Military Police was heading to al-Malikiyah. Armored vehicles of the U.S. military blocked the main road to the town. However, Russian vehicles went off the road bypassing U.S. forces.
A U.S. vehicle attempted to ram a Russian BTR-80 armored personnel carrier. The Russian vehicle, however, was able to avoid the hit.

Earlier this month, a similar incident took place in northern al-Hasakah. Russian forces were also able to break through the U.S. road block.
These incidents show that U.S. forces in northeast Syria have been becoming more hostile towards the Russian Military Police. The U.S. military is trying to restrict the movement of Russian forces in oil-rich areas in al-Hasakah. Russia has been patient about these provocations so far.

The US position in eastern Syria is based on aggressive bluff – their occupation forces are tiny, and heavily outnumbered, but rely on threat of US air support from US bases in Iraq – but, that is shifting, the US public is currently preoccupied with own US internal dissent issues, before an upcoming general election, and Iraq is challenging the US to stand down its occupation bases. As an aside, blocking an asphalt road with a US Oshkosh vehicle is hardly an obstacle to a BTR-82, an eight wheeled off-road monster!

Although, one drawback of their armoured vehicles is that they’re a bit light on protection and wouldn’t be able to withstand very heavy explosives. In terms of engine capacity, mobility, speed, offroad terrain capability and weaponry they far exceed any of the American equivalents.

Russia had plenty of experience with IEDs in the 80s in Afghanistan. Most of the BTRs have additonal armor and their bottom are V shaped deflecting the explosions. Newer models are even more resistant. Look at the T-90 in Syria. Its not even the A or MS model, but to my knowledge non were lost sofar. One was abandoned because it run out of fuel and ammo but was later found intact :)
