On January 12, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced in an official statement that Russian forces had located and eliminated the group which conducted the mortar attack on Hmeimim airbase on December 31, 2017. Russian forces used the 2K25 Krasnopol 152 mm laser-guided artillery round to eliminate the group of terrorists, according to the ministry.
“When the terrorists arrived at the facility where they were to board a minibus, the whole subversive group was eliminated by the Krasnopol high-precision munition,” the ministry said in its official statement, according to the Russian news agency TASS .
The ministry added that the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) uncovered a terrorist fixed-wing drone assembly and storage workshop in in the northern Idlib governorate. The workshop is likely linked to the armed drone attack on Hmeimim airbase, and Tartus naval facility base on January 6.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with the media on January 11, that Russia knows which “provocateur” was behind the drone attack which targeted the Russian military bases in Syria, according to Reuters.
After it was located by the GRU, Russian forces destroyed the drone workshop with a laser-guided 2K25 Krasnopol artillery round according to the defense ministry.
The both strikes were filmed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
The 2K25 Krasnopol guided artillery rounds which were used to eliminate the terrorists were likely fired by a 2S19 “Msta-S” 152.4 mm self-propelled howitzer, that was already spotted in Syria on May 26, 2017. The Krasnopol has a range of up to 40km, a 20kg high-explosives warhead and a pinpoint accuracy thanks to its semi-active laser (SAL) guidance system.

You don’t get the tech. Lasers ILLUMINATE the target, guiding in the shells. The laser can be from an observing air vehicle, or from an agent on the ground (the usual case in such strikes). The device filming the strike need have NOTHING to do with ether the laser targeting nor the bombing/shelling.In the case of an agent on the ground, and laser guided artillery, the observing drone is a third party.
