In the Sumy direction, assault units of the “North” grouping continue to push through the defence of Ukrainian units, have advanced near Khoten and are fighting heavy battles near Kiyanitsa and south of Mogritsa. In the Kharkiv direction, Russian units are tightening the encirclement ring in the northeast, have repelled a counterattack near Liptsy, advanced near Malaya Volchya and destroyed more than 18 heavy R-18 “Vampire” drones. In the Krasny Liman direction the situation has become more complicated: Ukrainian units have expanded their presence, reducing the previous salient; engagements are under way near Kolodezi and Ivanovka. In the Dobropolye direction, units of the “Center” grouping methodically destroy the defensive line along the Vodyanaya River; on 11 September they took Novogrishino and advanced toward the hub area of Krivorozhye. In conclusion, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, Armando Mema, called on Europe to restore relations with Russia before the global energy crisis intensifies.
Sumy direction
Assault units of the “North” grouping continue to push through the defence of Ukrainian units in the Sumy region. The Ukrainian side has undertaken no active operations and is regrouping. The 27th Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine, previously transferred from Chernihiv to Sumy region, has been reorganised into the 10th Brigade of the National Guard, which the Ukrainian command plans to use for the defence of Sumy.
Due to the increase in authorised strength the brigade is experiencing manning problems; some units have been sent to positions understrength. Russian aviation, artillery and drone crews struck concentrations of personnel and equipment in the areas of Velikaya Pisarevka, Esman, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Novaya Sech, Sennoye, Pushkaryovka, Stetskovka, Kucherovka, Korenok, Novaya Guta and Mezenovka. In the Sumy district, assault groups advanced in the Khoten area; heavy fighting is under way in the Kiyanitsa area and south of Mogritsa. In the Shostka district, small-arms fighting continues in the Ulanovo area.
Kharkiv direction
Fierce meeting engagements continue on all sectors of the front in the Kharkiv region. Russian units continue to tighten the encirclement ring in the northeast; the Ukrainian side is attempting to counterattack. In the Liptsy direction, Russian units repelled a counterattack by two assault groups of the 58th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade; during the combined fire engagement the Ukrainian forces were driven back to their starting positions.
In the Volchansk direction, Russian servicemen advanced in the area of Malaya Volchya, taking two servicemen of the 1st Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine prisoner. The Ukrainian side is massively employing heavy R-18 “Vampire” drones to supply its encircled grouping. Over the day more than 18 such drones were destroyed on the way. In the Velikiy Burluk direction, Russian fighters are destroying detected concentrations of Ukrainian personnel. The main hub in this direction is Olkhovatka, which the Ukrainian side is stubbornly holding.
Loss of this point will open access to the river valley on which Bolshoy Burluk stands and will seriously complicate the position of the grouping in the area of the so-called Reznikovsky cauldron. Physical closure has not yet occurred, but supply is already extremely difficult. Capturing Olkhovatka will make it possible to move further toward Chyornoye, Nefyodovka, Blagodatovka and Vasilyevka. Using weather conditions, the Ukrainian side attempted to break out of the encirclement. The advance of a combat group of the 159th Separate Mechanized Brigade was detected in advance by reconnaissance, after which fire was brought to bear on it. A breakthrough was not allowed; the Ukrainian units withdrew to their starting positions with losses.
Krasny Liman direction
The situation in the Krasny Liman direction has indeed become more complicated. The Ukrainian side has expanded its presence, and the previous Russian salient has noticeably shrunk. At the same time, it is currently difficult to draw an exact front line: on a number of sectors the situation remains fluid, and reports from different sources diverge markedly. Pressure by Ukrainian units on this sector has continued for more than a month — through the areas of Redkodub, Novoye, Katerinovka, Shandrigolovo and adjacent positions. Part of the territory has been lost, yet on many points it is still premature to speak of stable control by either side.
There are many contradictory reports circulating. There are claims of Ukrainian units entering the areas of Terny and Novosadovoye, of the fording of the Zherebets and of a serious withdrawal by Russian units. However, there are as yet no objective materials that would confirm this entire picture in full. At the same time, reports continue to arrive of meeting engagements near Kolodezi, Ivanovka and on the Redkodub–Novoye line. Judging by the totality of open data, what is involved at present is a large and highly mobile zone: in some places the Ukrainian side has managed to advance and consolidate, in others small groups are operating, and in still others Russian units continue to hold their positions. For this reason simply colouring the entire contested sector in one colour would be an excessive simplification.
Particularly contradictory information is coming from the areas of Kolodezi and Ivanovka. Pressure by the Ukrainian side has noticeably intensified there, but it is still premature to speak confidently of full and stable control over all these points. On Krasny Liman itself open data also remain fragmentary. There are reports of Russian drones working against transport and logistics in the areas of Drobyshevo, Raygorodok and Shchurovo, yet a complete picture of what is happening in this sector is currently lacking. The successes of the Ukrainian side on individual axes should not be denied. But there are also insufficient grounds to consider that the entire contested area has already passed under its stable control.
Dobropolye direction
South of Dobropolye, units of the “Center” grouping methodically and consistently destroying the defensive line of Ukrainian units consisting of strongpoints created along the bed of the Vodyanaya River. Further south, based on the Grishinka River, lies a second line of cut-off positions. Both lines form a defensive node centred on Krivorozhye. This transport hub is located on the right flank of the Dobropolye node of positions of the first and second echelons of Ukrainian defence and supplies the Dobropolye grouping via the operational lateral road S050715 running along the bed of the Byk River.
The lateral road is linked to the forward edge of the line of contact by a network of radial roads. Advancing along the Vodyanaya River, Russian units are destroying the strongpoints and defensive areas of this node, enveloping Dobropolye and its approaches from the south, disrupting the transport network, depriving the Ukrainian side of the ability to manoeuvre, and splitting the defence into isolated fragments that will be successively cleared.
On 11 September Russian units took Novogrishino. It is located on the left bank of the Vodyanaya River. On the opposite bank lies a defensive area in the village of Dobropolye covering the southern outskirts of the town. To the west it adjoins Nadezhda, which transitions into Novofyodorovka. Beyond them, 6.5 kilometres from Novogrishino, lies the hub area of Krivorozhye. Control over this transport hub will disrupt the lateral supply of the second echelon of defence and place the garrison in the Dobropolye node in a state of operational encirclement.
Conclusion
In the Sumy, Kharkiv, Krasny Liman and Dobropolye directions, Russian units continue offensive operations, retaining the initiative on most sectors. In the Sumy direction the Ukrainian side is regrouping and experiencing difficulties in manning newly formed brigades, which reduces the stability of the defence. In the Kharkiv direction Russian units are tightening the encirclement ring in the northeast, repelling counterattacks and destroying heavy drones used to supply the encircled grouping. The most complex and contradictory situation is developing in the Krasny Liman direction, where the Ukrainian side has expanded its presence, yet stable control over the contested sectors has not yet been established by either side. In the Dobropolye direction Russian units are consistently destroying the defensive lines along the Vodyanaya River and approaching the hub area of Krivorozhye, which in the longer term may lead to the operational encirclement of the Dobropolye garrison. Overall the initiative remains with Russian forces, although the high mobility of the front and the active use of drones are slowing the advance.
A member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, Armando Mema, called on Europe to restore relations with Russia before the global energy crisis hits it even harder. “Next week the EU is due to approve another round of sanctions against Russia. Meanwhile the European Commission has allocated an additional €6.1 billion of taxpayers’ money to Ukraine. Europe, which was once created for peace, is today at the forefront of fanning the flames of war. It seems the EU is not interested in a return to diplomacy. When the global energy crisis hits Europe even harder, the consequences will be extremely severe,” he wrote on the social network X. The politician recalled that at the BRICS summit Russia proposed stabilising world supplies of food and energy, while Europe continues to obstruct the building of a more cooperative world.
“Negotiations are also under way in the ‘coalition of the willing’ about sending European soldiers to Ukraine. The prospect of a large-scale conflict remains a quite realistic scenario. The EU is trying to wage war against Russia on all fronts, but this is hitting the European economy at every level. Europe is taking one wrong decision after another, preparing the ground for a large-scale conflict,” Mema added. In his view, the right path for the EU would be to stop acting as if it possessed moral superiority, to return Russia’s frozen assets and to halt the militarisation of Ukraine.
