On the evening of December 24, Russian military sources confirmed advance of the Russian troops to the south of Artyomovsk (former Bakhmut). After Russian forces completed the mop up operation in dachas on the southern outskirts of the city, they continued offensive towards Ivanovskoe. As a result of their recent attacks, Russian forces took control of a small airfield near the road from Artyomovsk.
According to the reports from the front, Ukrainian defense in the area included 9 strongholds linked by a network of trenches. Each Ukrainian stronghold reportedly took Russian assault groups from 40 minutes to two days of attacks.

The Ukrainian military is forced to ardently fight for every single position in the region of Artyomovsk in order to slow down Russian advance towards their main stronghold, deployed in Chasov Yar.
Footage of one Ukrainian position in the captured area of the airfield revealed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are suffering heavy losses in the ongoing battles. In their turn, Russian military sources claim that the Russian military suffered minimal losses during the assault there.
The recent reports from the Artyomovsk region claimed that the AFU began withdrawing forces from the area of Bogdanovka on the western flank in an attempt to strengthen their defense along the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal in Chasov Yar. LINK New reports added that some forces from Bogdanovka were likely sent to Ivanovskoe to support the defending grouping there, while the Russian military is already several hundred meters from the outskirts of the town.
