Russian Foreign Minister: Israeli Airstrikes On Syria Could Lead To Escalation

Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory could lead to a further escalation and destabilization, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned in a recent interview.

“Regarding arbitrary Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory, we have never concealed a negative attitude towards such actions that further destabilize the situation and could lead to an escalation,” Lavrov told the UK-based Asharq Al-Awsat during the interview, which was released on October 3.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that Syria should not become a platform for implementing plans or settling accounts, calling on all sides to help “restore peace to Syrian territory.”

The Israeli military have been attacking targets inside Syria for more than six years now. Israel claims that its forces are attacking “Iranian bases” in the war-torn country. However, facts contradict with these claims as many of the attacks resulted in Syria losses only.

Last July, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck several areas south of Damascus. The airstrikes killed at least six Syrian civilians, including an infant and a little girl.

Lavrov’s warning highlights the sensitivity of the situation. Damascus has declined to respond to Israeli attacks, so far. If this policy changes, the region could indeed witness a further military escalation.

An ‘escalation’, Israel. YOU know… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/533c4fa25b89fb87c5db120f00c4d4cfc0822242e0b01ba1474c52240c43834f.png

Jacob Wohl's Nose

oh cmon now, IDF got Jacob’s Nose. Topol is like a twig compared to that giant honker

Zionism = EVIL

As I explained a few weeks ago, Russians, especially the military are fed up with Zionist scum and their arrogance. Even Putin gave the peon treatment to Nutter Yahoo and kept him waiting outside for 2 hours and then palmed him off to Shoigu who read the Zionist leeches the riot act.

Russians are Orthodox and very closer to Muslims in general and feel comfortable, especially with their Shia allies. Russian people have had centuries of bad experience with filthy Jews and backstabbing. Russia is also looking at its strategic interest in its southern, once soft underbelly, but now Iran and even Turkey is defacto ally, and Armenia, Hezbollah, Syria and even Iraq staunch allies. Russia now has complete land access to the Mediterranean and has no use for Zionist scum who have Russian blood on their hands. Russia is providing Hezbollah with first rate weaponry and even uniforms and body armor.

do something about it – a majority of the world’s people find israel to be a menace that has no place in the human family and thus it’s necessary to do something about them a final time – no regrets and no come backs guaranteed.

EveryoneIsBiased

Nice to see Lavrov continues this stand that he and Shoygu have taken for years. And it speaks against the MSM narrative of Putin being a Dictator, when this ministers can take a different stand than Putin himself in this issue. Even though it won’t change the practical policy of only using the Russian stationed air defenses to defend Russian soldiers exclusively and not Syrian or Iranian troops. But i can understand too, that Putin sees Israel as being potentially and geopolitical (especially with its influence on the US) as more important as protecting Syrian soldiers from airstrikes. Politics are a cold-hearted bitch.

jerry

yes, Putin is not unfavorable to Israel, and is on the ‘other side’ only because of US support for Israel.

Israel has to play it very carefully to maintain Russian permission to defend itself from Iran, and so far has done a very good job in that regard. Time will tell.

sagbotgamot

Zionist Israel firmly believes they are different from the rest of us being the only people created by God. If you meet someone that exactly looks a homosapien but who is not a zionist jew, he/she is a beast in human form. Thus sayeth the Babylonian Talmud.

jerry

zero Zionists believe anything like that. And the Talmud also doesn’t say anything like that.

you guys are brainwashed

Real Anti-Racist Action

Get a clue Sergey Lavrov, Israel WANT’s an escalation (they just can’t say that cause then they’ll look like the bad guys). Sergey Lavrov really does not understand the Jewish mind. He should be replaced by someone who does understand the Jewish mind so he can better guide foreign policies.

Xoli Xoli

Lavrov is beating behind the bushes. Control by all age syndrome. He is telling us a story instead of telling Israel cockroaches to stop.

Lavrov back door meetings with Kerry have allowed USA,France,Britain, Turkey to settle down in Syria and create bases which their camouflage with observations post nonsense. Why not creating those nonsense in their own countries.

Zionism = EVIL

Pisrael is nothing, believe me, the whole Jew scum facade is coming off.

Russian, Iranian, Hezbollah and Syrian government forces launched their first joint exercise in Syria’s Deir ez-Zour region – or,for that matter, their first combined drill anywhere else in the Mid-East. The exercise, taking place on the western bank of the Euphrates, features their first combined trilateral missile launches and air strikes on fortified targets. Also for the first time, Russian military sources have openly revealed that Iranian Air Force jets and drones as well as special forces have arrived in Syria for the war game. Iran has sent two squadrons of upgraded MIG-29 and SU-24 ground attacks aircraft to Syria along with air defence systems and drones.

Moscow has also contributed to the exercise mobile air defense Pansir S-1 and Pantsir S-2 missile systems, providing those Iranian forces with a Russian air defense umbrella.

Russian and Syrian communiques on the combined exercise omit its starting date – only stating that it is taking place in the western part of Deir ez-Zour province not far from the American base at Al Tanf which controls the Syria-Jordan-Iraq border junction.

Western military sources report that the drill ushers in a prominent feature of the new Russian strategic setup in Syria. Moscow has begun making use of the Al Qaim-Abu Kamal border crossing between Iraq and Syria, which was only reopened three days ago after eight years of war. Heavy Russian military vehicles from Black Sea bases, especially in South Ossetia and Crimea, have begun rolling into Syria through the newly-opened crossing, thereby cementing a land bridge from Russia to the Middle East in addition to Moscow’s air and naval corridors to Syria. Moscow is therefore using the same land bridge via Tehran for cutting through Iraq and Syria to reach the eastern Mediterranean overland. Russia’s shared presence on this route will make it hard for US and Israel to attack the land corridor forged by Iran when it uses the same border crossing and route as the Russians. Both Russia and Iran have stated that they will strike back hard if their forces are attacked.

jerry

so long as the Russians stay out of it, Israel can handle the Iranian efforts to shoot down their planes.

Israel has no meaningful choice but to try and take out whatever advance Iranian attack bases they build in Syria, Lebanon, or Iraq.

jerry

Israel hardly treats anyone as “slaves” — and no matter how Israeli behaves the Muslim Supremacist Palestinian and/or neighboring states would oppose Israel’s existence.

They tried to inflict a genocide on Israelis on day one of its existence — proving that Israeli behavior has zero to do with it.

it’s the existence of Israel that for its enemies is the issue – not how it behaves.

Pork

The situation is seemingly fluid. Alliances may change depending on an infinite variety of factors ranging from domestic issues to geo-political issues…keep your friends close and your enemies closer, the saying goes. Israel is everyone’s enemy, all want to be very close. In the end, extra-regional players don’t factor in. This ball game is between 2 countries, no matter the outside influence. Hell will reign supreme but only one will remain standing. The indigenous peoples will prevail, make no mistake. Such is history in the region. Colonialism is dead. The power play is in economics, they Iranians have known this for decades and have played their hand accordingly.

Xoli Xoli

Just respond point blank to any Israel attack and jam all its electronic device.Hack in Demon nuclear reactor and cause explosion. Used the same method which their uses against Russian base and Saudi oil facilities. Mass swam drone attack on all Israel bases and nuclear reactors. The whole bible scriptures are against Israel violant ignorant actions.

verner

sure escalation and then the annihilation of israel and the purge of each and every one of the squatters that for far too many years been allowed to murder palestinians (and others as well) and steal palestinian land and operating concentration camp Gaza a la hitler’s ruled based order. so pinprick yourself to your own annihilation, you’re welcome!

jerry

bigot

IMHO

He needs to just shut up. Israel has been doing what they want in the face of Russian and Syrian threats of “retaliation” and “escalation” for years now. Either shit or get off the pot.

jerry

Hopefully he won’t “get off the pot” and Russia will continue to allow Israel to protect itself.

Rhetoric notwithstanding

Israel doesn’t have much choice in the matter. If things have to “escalate” for Israel to defend itself, than Israel will have to face that, though they certainly don’t want to.

The alternative of trying to avoid escalation by allowing Iran to build the bases needed to inflict heavy damage on Israel in the near future is untenable.

IMHO

Israel is not “protecting itself”. It is the aggressor and it has been ever since they stole that land. The synagogue of Satan needs to be eliminated.

jerry

Your lust for genocide of Jews is noted.

Get a sheet KKK boy

IMHO

Not surprised by your response. It shows a complete lack of understanding and brainwashed ignorance on your part. The “Jews” are not the subject. The U.N. created state of Israel is. And just as those usurpers of old were labeled, so are those usurpers today. There authority was removed once and for all but now they are playing on peoples ignorance to lay claim to what is not theirs. Real Jews know this.

Johan

The texts should reaad: The Russian foreign minister stressed that Syria north east should not become a platform for implementing plans of ethnic cleansing, settling accounts, calling on All sides to “restore peace to Syrian territory.” And on Erdogan to fuck his own country and leave the world in peace.

jerry

that would be a far better article, though it would have zero to do then with Israel.

Israeli actions against Iranian aggression in Syria have nothing to do with any cleansing or settling accounts.

Indeed – if your statement was actually Russia’s intent – it would have to force Iran out of Syria. Iran is in Syria to try and effect ethnic cleansing of the Jews in Israel, and to implement Islamic Supremacism. For them, that there is a non-Islamic state in the region is something that needs to have “accounts settled” by destroying it.

It would be great if Russia would kick them out and not allow them to ship weapons through Syria to Hezbollah or Hamas.

That would end any Israeli airstrikes in Syria.

You can call me Al

3-2-1 Bye Bye Kikes.

jerry

the cause of any wider war in Syria is Iranian aggression in moving its forces and proxy forces in positions to strike at Israel.

This Iranian effort is part of their Islamic Supremacist ideology, which is why they are constantly calling for the destruction of the Jewish State.

Israel needs zero “pretext” to take measures against that Iranian aggression. quite the contrary, it would be immoral for Israel to NOT take efforts to keep Iran at bay.

jerry

Israel is not the cause of any food shortages. Billions of dollars are sent into Gaza, but spent on war efforts rather than on the general population. Tons of food shipments go into Gaza every day from Israel, even though Gaza also has a border with Egypt over which Israel has zero control.

And, no, Israel destroys no farms in Gaza. You are referring to the fact that Israel sprays on it’s own side of the fence with herbicides to keep down growth for security purposes.

Some of that has allegedly been born by the wind and caused some damage to a few farms in Gaza that are located near the border. In fact, some Israeli farms near the border suffered similar damage.

hardly some sort of campaign to “destroy farms”

jerry

haha. That’s no “pretext” LR. Hamas is real and is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and would commit a genocide against Israelis if it had the capability to do it. They are not that different from ISIS.

jerry

Iran does support Hamas, and Hezbollah.

The SAA is the Syrian Army, has always sought the destruction of Israel, and Israel never supported them.

Israel, like the USA and some European countries, did try to support the elements within the resistance against Assad that were seeking democratic style reforms and a more free society. Those groups were overrun and intermixed however with Islamacist groups – which Israel did not support.

jerry

your first link proves exactly what I was talking about. unintentional wind bearing herbicide sprayed in Israel over the border and hitting a few close by farms, as well as some Israeli farms.

your second link describes the war in 2014 and nowhere suggests even one bomb dropped under any “pretext”, and nothing about intentionally trying to harm farms.

Yes it was a devastating war. And yes, when civilians in Gaza elected a leadership and construct a society bent on destroying its neighbor out of Islamic supremacist concepts — resulting wars will bring harm to the society as a whole.

jerry

??? That war was long after Israel withdrew and ended all occupation of Gaza.

The Israelis withdrew in the hope that the Gazans would elect peace and build their own thriving economy.

But the opposite occurred. That’s why most Israelis have given up on the 2 state idea
