The Russian military continues to take out Ukrainian radars and other air defense means using Geran-type drones with much success.
Recent drone strikes on the regions of Mykolaiv, Odessa, and Kyiv destroyed three unidentified radar stations in addition to a transporter erector launcher from an S-300 long-range air defense system, according to video footage released on September 26.
Another video released five days earlier showed strikes on three 35D6 radar stations in addition to a communication relay system in the settlement of Starokazachye in Odessa, as well as in the settlements of Aviatorskoye and Andriyevka in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
These recent strikes were almost certainly carried out using Russia’s latest Geran-4 Seeker jet-powered one-way attack drones.
The drone is reported to be capable of speeds exceeding 500 kilometers per hour and a range of more than 850 kilometers. It is also equipped with an artificial intelligence-powered optical targeting system. It carries a 50-kilogram warhead.
Recent Western media reports have described the Geran-4 Seeker as highly effective. The latest strikes underscore how the Russian military is exploiting Ukraine’s vulnerability to the new fast drone to further degrade what remains of the country’s air defense network.
This comes at a time Ukraine is struggling to secure new air defense means from its Western allies amid a shortage caused by the United States-Israeli war on Iran. Russia is now very much destroying Ukrainian air defenses faster than Kyiv could replace them.
