The Russian military has reportedly developed a new version of the highly-versatile Gerbera drone to carry and deploy smaller quadcopters.
Photos showing the wreckage of one such drone were shared by Ukrainian media on February 4. A mount was installed on top of the drone fuselage to carry a single quadcopter in a forward tilted angle.

The Gerbera was developed by Russia’s Gastello Design Bureau as a cheap multirole unmanned solution. It was unveiled in 2024.
The drone features a simplistic design with an operational range of 300-600 kilometers and a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. It can be equipped for a variety of missions, from suicide attacks to reconnaissance, and electronic warfare. The extremely low price of the drone, reportedly less than $10,000, also allows it to be used as a decoy.
The new version was likely developed to deploy first-person view (FPV) suicide quadcopters, even possibly ones designed to intercept other drones.

The Russian military has been experimenting with FPV drone carriers for quite some time. Last year, the Molniya-2 and the larger Orlan-30 were tested in this role. The main aim of such carrier drones is to deliver the quadcopters to targets located far behind the line of sight, all while providing target accusation and data-link relay.
The size, cost and agile design of the Gerbera makes a perfect pick for a drone carrier. However, as of now, the concept appears to be still in the testing phase.
