Russian Intelligence: Eurocrats Are Preparing Coup In Hungary

The leadership of the European Commission wants a regime change in Hungary, which Brussels perceives as an obstacle to a “united Europe,” a statement by the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) revealed.

“Brussels is furious at Budapest’s attempts to pursue an independent policy and influence collective decision-making, primarily on Russia and Ukraine,” the statement reads. “The ‘last straw’ that broke the camel’s back for the European bureaucracy was the Hungarians’ recent decision to block the draft of the new seven-year EU budget, which, according to their assessments, was developed to militarize Europe and prepare it for war with Moscow.”

According to the SVR, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is seriously studying Hungary’s regime change scenarios.

Ursula sees the leader of the opposition party Respect and Freedom, Peter Magyar, who is loyal to the globalist elites, as the main candidate for the post of head of government, the service added.

“The plan is to bring him to power in the parliamentary elections in the spring of 2026, “or maybe even earlier,” the statement reads.

Significant material, administrative, media and lobbying resources have already been mobilized to support Magyar, the SVR revealed, noting that German party funds, a number of Norwegian human rights NGOs, and the European People’s Party are ready to provide financial resources.

“Kiev, ‘offended’ by Budapest’s blocking of its European integration process, has actively joined the campaign to ‘dismantle’ the Hungarian government on orders from Brussels. At the same time, the regime of V. Zelensky is doing the dirtiest work, including destabilizing the situation in Hungary through the capabilities of the Ukrainian special services and the diaspora living there,” it concluded.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungary has for long adopted a moderate policy, promoting direct dialogue with Russia and dismissing the EU’s strategy of continuous escalation, especially when it comes to the conflict in Ukraine.

Just a day earlier, Orbán slammed the EU over a statement meant to undermine the upcoming American-Russian presidential summit.

The leaders of the EU vowed their unwavering support for Ukraine in the statement. Orbán was the only European leader who refused to sign the text.

The statement states that the EU is willing to provide further political, financial, and military support to Ukraine for “self defence” and demanded security guarantees for Kiev. In addition, it promises support for Ukraine’s path towards EU membership.

The statement was drafted by EU Council president António Costa and agreed by leaders last night. But Hungary refused to sign up.

“Hungary does not associate itself with this Statement,” the text concluded.

Orbán later published a post on his X account, justifying his decision by accusing the EU of attempting to obstruct the summit and calling for direct talks with Russia.

“Just four days ahead of the historic summit between President Trump and President Putin, the European Council sought to issue a statement in the name of all EU heads of state and government.

Before the liberal-mainstream chorus begins its newest rendition of their favourite ‘Putin’s puppet’ tune, I decided to share why I could NOT support the statement on behalf of Hungary.

1. The statement attempts to set conditions for a meeting to which leaders of the EU were not invited.

2. The fact that the EU was left on the sidelines is sad enough as it is. The only thing that could make things worse is if we started providing instructions from the bench.

3. The only sensible action for EU leaders is to initiate an EU-Russia summit, based on the example of the US-Russia meeting.

Let’s give peace a chance!” the primer said.

In an interview from the same day, Orbán stated that Russia won in Ukraine, calling on the West to admit losing the conflict.

“We are talking now as if this were an open-ended war situation, but it is not. The Ukrainians have lost the war. Russia has won this war,” Orbán told the “Patriot” YouTube channel. “The only question is when and under what circumstances will the West, who are behind the Ukrainians, admit that this has happened and what will result from all this.”

Earlier, Hungary rejected EU statements calling for military or financial support for Ukraine or demanding help for the EU path for Kiev.

The Hungarian government concluded earlier this year a non-binding poll called Voks2025 about Ukraine’s EU accession. At least 95 % of the respondents, more than 2 million people, said they were opposed to Ukraine joining the EU.

Ukraine is not the only issue where Orbán stands in contrast to the EU. Earlier this year, Hungary approved, in coordination with Russia, a gas transit deal to Transnistria, allowing the Russian-majority region to reject conditioned aid by the EU. This move by Orbán very much foiled a European attempt to subdue the region, and further pull Moldova to its sphere of influence.

Overall, the SVR’s statement is not surprising. The EU is clearly not happy with Orbán’s sovereign policies, which prioritizes the interests of Hungary.

Many in Europe likely fear that allowing the Hungarian government to continue will encourage others in the continent to break away from the collective policies being imposed by the elites, who are still determined to escalate against Russia in Ukraine and elsewhere even if that means moving away from the U.S.
